PRS Brent Mason Guitar in White WashMaple Fingerboard
Everyone has particular styles of guitars they prefer. Some people love Les Pauls, some love Strats and others love PRS. Every guitar has a place for someone. So what happens when PRS take their incredible hardware and build quality. And put it into a style of guitar you wouldn't normally expect out of the Maryland factory. The PRS Brent Mason signature is that guitar, mixing together the best of PRS and Strat style guitars.
Bridging The Gap
This PRS truly bridges the gap between two distinctly different guitars in a way that we think both PRS and Strat fans will enjoy. The first thing that stood out to me was the vintage design from the plain flat top and pick guard. This guitar is understated and could quite easily fit into any guitarists collection.
The PRS Brent Mason is unlike any other guitar from their line up. It features a Korina body which is a sort of "super Mahogany". The idea is that it is brighter and lighter than mahogany, but without losing out on low end when compared to mahogany. You also get a maple neck on this guitar, which has been carved to a more vintage taper and is slightly longer than your typical PRS neck at 25 1/4". These small differences add up to produce a guitar that really is the best of both worlds.
You don't only get between the line design but also a sound that fits amazingly well into both camps. You can great full humbucking PRS sounds with the PRS 408 pickups in the bridge and neck positions and a 305 pickup in the middle. You can also split one or both of the 408 pickups so you can access HSS, SSH, SSS and HSH pickup configurations all at the flick of a switch. So no matter what configuration you prefer you only need one guitar. Versatility is key.
PRS Pickup Innovation
You can split the coils on these PRS 408 humbucking pickups but in any way you have heard before. Normally when you split the coil on a pickup it just disengages one side (normally the screw coil). These PRS pickups do disengage one side but they also add on more winds of wire around the slug coil when this happens. Because of this little bit of genius when you tap you don't get any volume loss.
Like with all PRS guitars you can expect only the highest quality parts with Phase 3 locking tuners and PRS Tremolo. You can go crazy on this tremolo system and it will not go out of tune.
Here's what PRS say about the Brent Mason Guitar
"What I look for in a guitar is tone and playability. Equipped with the perfect pick-up combination that gives you single or double coil sounds at the flip of a switch and a middle pickup that further expands the tone spectrum, this guitar is possibly the most versatile guitar I've had in my hands." - Brent Mason
