Satchel is the flamboyant axeman of 80s-inpired glam metal band Steel Panther. To keep their nostalgic, over-the-top look intact, Satchel's signature Charvel guitar had to look the part, hence the crazy Yellow Bengal finish!
Based on the Dinky, a design often associated with Jackson Guitars, this hot-rodded instrument boasts a raft of high-spec features, ensuring optimal playability and tone. Powered by a set of super-hot Fishman humbuckers, this guitar also features a 1000 Series Floyd Rose tremolo system, a graphite-reinforced neck and a compound radius fretboard for ultimate playing comfort.
Alder is a classic tonewood used in the construction of Strat-style guitars, a tradition that Charvel has largely continued to adhere to. With very balanced tonal qualities, Alder ensures a strong mid-range that lends itself particularly well to high-gain, producing a focused tone that can punch through effortlessly in busy mixes.
Paired with a Maple neck, this bright-sounding wood will help to deliver some top-end definition, and a bolt-on construction provides a snappy response with plenty of projection and clarity. Reinforced with Graphite, this neck will remain stable even in differing temperatures and conditions, meaning you won't have to tinker with your setup very often at all.
A compound radius fretboard is an excellent, high-end feature of this instrument. Rounded at the lower end of the neck to make chords easier to play, the fretboard flattens out in the higher register to make shredding a total breeze. This also helps to prevent notes from fretting out when performing string bends, making it a very ergonomic design. Another luxury feature of this guitar is its rolled fingerboard edges, providing even more comfort for your left hand so that you can move up and down the neck super-smoothly.
Electronics and Hardware
This vibrant instrument is powered by a pair of Fishman Fluence humbuckers, effortlessly handling high doses of gain without breaking a sweat. But they're more versatile than that, with the volume control hiding a push-pull function that adjusts the voicings of the two humbuckers. Pushed down, you can enjoy the massive Fluence sound, with searing high-end clarity and full-bodied grunt. Pull the volume pot, and the pickups will convey a more PAF-esque character, with a vintage vibe and less output.
The Floyd Rose 1000 Series double-locking tremolo will keep your tuning super solid, and with a recessed design you can divebomb and flutter to your heart's content!
Here's what Charvel say about the Pro-Mod Satchel Signature Dinky in Yellow Bengal:
Reagan-era Sunset Strip glam metal, but there’s just no arguing with the ferociously slamming chops of guitarist Russ “Satchel” Parrish. Simply put, nobody puts the 1987 into today like Parrish and his metalloid feline cohorts, and Charvel is excited to deliver a huge horns-up in the tiger-striped form of the Satchel Signature Pro-Mod DK Yellow Bengal.
The instrument has an alder Dinky™ body with sharper-radius top edges and a flamboyantly florescent Yellow Bengal finish. Of special note are the two Fishman® Fluence Classic humbucking pickups, which share a single volume control knob with special push/pull dual voice activation. Using this control, the PRF-CHBNB1
neck pickup delivers ideal-but-elusive vintage PAF humbucking neck pickup tone with just the right dynamics and output (voice one), or a Fluence-exclusive neck tone with clear and airy chime, unreal high end, highly vocal midrange and tight lows (voice two). Similarly, the PRF-CHB-BB1 bridge pickup delivers ideal vintage PAF humbucking tone calibrated for perfect output (voice one), or quintessential hot-rodded humbucking bridge tone without all the baggage (voice two). You get the idea—it sounds %$#@& huge.
The two-piece bolt-on maple neck has a Fender® Stratocaster® headstock with Charvel-branded die-cast tuners, graphite reinforcement and heel-mount truss rod adjustment wheel, and a Charvel neck plate. Atop that is a compound-radius maple fingerboard (12”-16”) with 22 jumbo frets and offset dot inlays. Other features include a three-way toggle pickup switch, rearbody “football” output jack, Floyd Rose® FRT-O2000 doublelocking two-point tremolo bridge, and more.
