Paul Gilbert is one of the most iconic shredders on the planet, and as a loyal endorser of Ibanez for over 30 years, he has been graced with a number of unique-looking signature instruments. The latest incarnation of his Fireman model is no exception, merging quirky modern design with a vintage-inspired construction and traditional hardware appointments.
The Fireman's distinctive body shape is constructed of Mahogany, delivering a deep and rich tone that offers plenty of low-end warmth. Joined with a set Maple/Mahogany 3-piece neck, you'll have an instrument that boasts old-school charm and tones. The Maple will add some top-end sparkle and brightness, giving notes more snap and articulation, exactly what Gilbert is renowned for.
Electronics and Hardware
The FRM200 is powered by a dual dose of DiMarzio PG-13 mini humbuckers. Less potent compared to normal full-fat humbuckers, these pickups are less forgiving but far more responsive to your playing dynamics, lending themselves to expressive playing. They are very vibrant-sounding as a result, with a strong mid-range that gives notes amazing sonic projection and cut in busy mixes.
The Tight-Tune tune-o-matic style bridge and tailpiece also carries the vintage-style aesthetic, but it has a more ergonomic design that feels smoother on the right hand, particularly when palm-muting. At the other end of the guitar there is a Graph Tech nut, with its self-lubricating design ensuring that the strings glide over and return to their normal position after performing string bends. This means that the FRM200 will have great tuning stability, making this the perfect guitar for live performance.
