Gibson’s Tribute SG is all you could ever want from an iconic guitar at an impressively affordable price. The Nashville-based company have packed plenty of high-end features into the cool raw-looking Tribute range.
490R and T pickups are usually found on the flagship Standard guitars. But Gibson have equipped the Tribute SG with these legendary humbuckers designed to recreate the original 1960’s PAFs. They’ve been voiced with more mid-range bite for 2019 models. Perfect for modern players. But they also contain alnico II magnets with a vintage level output, making them extremely versatile.
Two tone and two volume knobs give you plenty of room to manoeuvre and shape a personal sound.
Body and neck
An unbound Rosewood fingerboard is a mainstay throughout the Tribute range. Not much can beat the feeling of a beautiful, grainy Rosewood for effortless playing on the 22 rolled frets.
A slim taper Maple neck offers lightning-fast playability which the SG was designed for. It’s made of a resonant, satin Mahogany body that adds huge sustain. The SG is also still as light as ever. Great for high-octane live shows or comfortable playing for hours on end at home.
A Tektoid nut and Grover tuners provide stable tuning, so you can go wild with bends, vibrato and aggressive playing.
Gibson have equipped the SG with an all-aluminium Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar. No rusting, easy to clean and extreme comfort for the resting picking hand.
The larger pickguard on the 2019 Standard adds a modern aesthetic to the classic body shape.
