Bill Kelliher is an incredible guitar player that is known for playing in metal masters Mastodon. Known for using extreme amounts of gain but with great definition and dynamics his sound has become iconic in the metal world. Now you can get his powerful range of tones in a single amplifier with the handwired Friedman Butterslax 100w all valve head.
So Much Gain!
The three channel Butterslax has an incredible amount of gain on all of the channels. Channel 1 can take you from a light crunch to what most would call a decent rock overdrive. Channel 2 takes it from there and by the time you are at midday on the gain control you are already where most amps max out. This amp goes even further and on the top of channel 2 and through channel 3 you get to insane levels. If you ever feel like you need more gain than your current rig the Butterslax will have you covered.
Super Tight Tone
Even with all of that gain on tap this amp remains super tight. The low end comes through brilliantly without ever sounding flabby even when you are drop tuned. The midrange pops through amazingly well making sure you will be heard on stage. Finally the high end is present without being too harsh or fizzy, perfect for high gain metal.
100w Of Valve Power
At 100w this is powerful enough to be heard on any size of stage. Start running through a 4x12" or even a pair of these cabinets and you have an incredible sound that will cover you from the local stage all the way up to the stadium. Powered by a quad of EL34 valves this amp has that classic British saturation that we associate with rock from the 60's and 70's, just with a lot more gain.
Here's what Friedman say about the Butterslax Head
Bill Kelliher's guitar playing is rooted in metal, infused with rock 'n' roll, progressive rock and sprinkled with bits and pieces of thrash, punk, and psychedelic-ness. So, when it came time for Mastodon's lead guitar player to design the ultimate amp to cover the complexity of his playing, Bill decided to team with long time friend and respected tone guru, Dave Friedman.
The result of this collaboration is the new Friedman Butterslax, a 100w, three channel beast powered by 4 x EL-34s with gain, more gain, extreme gain and some more gain to top it off. But "high-gain" is an over simplification of the Butterslax - what Dave andBill created is a super high gain, ultra tight amp that delivers deep, rich, low-end that will make your pants rattle. Yet, the Butterslax delivers detailed midrange and singing highs that capture every drop of each refined note.
The Butterslax features three channels. Channel one with gain, master, bass, middle, and treble takes you from slightly overdrive tones to hard rock. Channel two, with the same controls takes you to where most "metal" amps leave off. The third, fire breathing channel, takes you 100 miles past the extreme, to gain heaven - or hell, deepening on your perspective.
The Butterslax features an ultra transparent effects loop, Baltic Birch construction, black tolex and checkered grille cloth. So if you're looking for a clean amp to play, this is NOT your amp. But if you want an tone machine that measures on the Richter Scale, plug into the Butterslax and enjoy the ride.
The Butterslax is hand-wired in the U.S.A. using hand selected components. You can buy this amp with confidence because Friedman Amps are designed and built to last a lifetime. We guarantee it!
