Product Description

Following up the superb bass collaboration with Marcus Miller, Sire have partnered with jazz fusion legend Larry Carlton to bring you their take on the classic single cut: the L7. Sire instruments boast high-end specs at tempting prices - and it’s business as usual with the L7, which features a rolled edge fretboard, locking tuners and Larry Carlton humbuckers.

Construction

The L7 is built in close likeness to the classic single cut and it shows in wood selection. It's made using a solid mahogany body and neck combo with a stunning maple top. The set neck joint and “C” shape neck work in tandem to provide excellent access to the upper frets and smooth transition across the ebony fretboard.

Things get even better with the rolled edge fretboard edges, which make it feel like you're playing a guitar four times the price. Add in the medium jumbo frets and 12 inch radius, and you've got the best of both modern feel and old school style.

Hardware on the L7 is of an incredibly high standard. The premium locking tuners keep the L7 as precise as can be, even when throwing in big bends and heavy doses of vibrato. At the other end, you've got a trusty Sire-designed Modern Tune-O-Matic bridge for accurate intonation.

Sound

Sire worked closely with Larry Carlton to create the Modern humbucking pickup set. These deliver outstanding transparency throughout larger chords and excellent single note sustain. Both contemporary players and vintage rockers alike will find balanced, warm tones capable of finetuning to your specific needs.

Customer Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The L7 looks amazing, the satin neck is probably the best I've played (including on much more expensive guitars) it just feels right."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Bone nut, ebony fretboard, superb sounding pickups and flawless finish for less than a quarter of the price of a Les Paul Standard. This guitar has totally changed my perception of "budget guitars" Even if this had been a £1500 guitar I would still be very pleased indeed"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Far superior in quality and comfort to a lot of guitars twice the price. How Sire manage to do it at this price point is beyond me."

I know people have raved about these Sire Larry Carlton guitars but they are absolutely right to do to! As an owner of a Les Paul Custom and a Standard, I was unsure how the Sire would perform in comparison, but the build quality and finishing detail is unlike anything I've seen at the c.£500 mark. Plays nice, sounds nice, feels nice. The pickups are lower output, more akin to a vintage style, but that helps provide nice clarity when matched with gain. The gloss finish on the body and the satin finish on the neck is really great. I'd happily drop £1000 on one of these and still feel like I had a good deal.

I am basically a Strat man but I felt like a change. The only thing is it is very heavy.

Pros: These far outway the slight con.... The L7 looks amazing, the satin neck is probably the best I've played (including on much more expensive guitars) it just feels right. The Goldtop finish is more metallic sparkle than traditional but personally I love it and it's a modern LP style so it fits. It has a really well-balanced overall feel and you can tell the quality just by holding it. Just required minor tuning out of the box. The hardware I can't fault, the locking tuners work as they should, bone nut, the bridge and tailpiece are I believe Gotoh but marketed as Sire (I may be mistaken) but they are top notch nonetheless. Rolled medium jumbo frets are lovely. Cons: Just small areas on the neck finish where there are stain splatters from the neck on the binding (photo) but I'm hopeful this may be removed with some delicate cleaning. This is common from other reviews I've read so maybe something to expect. I was a little disappointed with this as it was a gift from my ICU colleagues and family after a full-on pandemic year but the overall look and playability more than made up for it and although it is capable of beautiful delicate sounds it can properly rock out, I've shoved it through my favourite big **** and it screams like a banshee...love it. Overall, this guitar plays like a dream and apart from minor blemishes I can't fault it. I must also add that Andertons customer service are amazing and they will definitely be my first choice for future purchases.
