Product Description

The Custom 24 is the definitive PRS guitar. Unveiled at the 1985 NAMM Show, this stellar six-string was PRS’ very first production model and it remains their most popular instrument even today. Distinctive for its flying bird fingerboard inlays, dual humbuckers, 24 frets, 25" scale and ergonomic contours — the Custom 24 is considered a modern classic among guitarists.

This SE version of the iconic Custom 24 possesses all of those signature features, but is available at an affordable price-point that's attainable for most! Finished in a gorgeous Faded Blue Burst colour, this instrument's versatile sonics and remarkable playability makes it suitable for all styles.

Rich Mahogany Body

The PRS SE Custom 24 sports a Mahogany body, delivering a warm sound with plenty of harmonic richness in the mid-range. Adorned with an amazing Flamed Maple top veneer top that boasts a shallow violin carve, this instrument's beauty is guaranteed to inspire you to pick it up and play for hours on end.

"Wide Thin" Neck

Joining the body is a bright-sounding Maple neck shaped to PRS' contemporary "Wide Thin" profile. While the material adds plenty of top-end snap to give notes more immediacy, the unique neck carve provides an incredibly modern and playable feel. The neck is also topped with a silky smooth Rosewood fingerboard that offers a luxurious touch under the fingers.

85/15 "S" Pickups

The pickups in this guitar are based on the acclaimed 85/15 humbuckers that have recently been used in PRS' US-made "Core" Custom 24 models. Paul Reed Smith famously said that these would have been the perfect pickups back in 1985 because they're hot enough to give you all of the punchy high-gain tones you'd ever need, but they clean up beautifully too. Crystal-clear and articulate — without any top-end harshness!

High-Quality Hardware

Although this particular model may be a part of the affordable SE line, PRS spared no expense when it came to the instrument's hardware appointments. The PRS Patented Molded Tremolo keeps things solid, with its beautifully-machined design offering a comfy feel and a smooth vibrato arm action. At the other end of the guitar you’ll find a set of PRS-designed machine heads that'll keep your tuning super-stable too.

Having played just strats for many years (I'm a blues guy) I fancied a bit of a change in sound. Watching videos on andertons TV introduced me to PRS (Both the man and the brand). I went for this model as I loved the look. It arrived in one day and has totally reinvigorated my love of playing, the bright high gain sound has made me look at new music styles and sounds, getting me out of a rut of the playing the same artists. This thing doesn't have squeal when you want it to.. my runs sound cleaner as the wide thin neck actually is a better fit for my hand than the strats i own. I've started exploring the trem for the first time too. The core tap is great for my style, giving single coil for SRV type stuff then humbucker for Gary Moore and beyond.. just by pushing the tone control, very versatile instrument. It is very bright, so takes some taming but worth it. My only minor niggle is the tuning is not quite as stable as my strats, which have locking pegs. So I plan on investing in some PRS locking tuners. Overall I love it... sounds and looks amazing. If this is how good the SEs are then the cores must be out of this world. Would I sell the strats - no, but this is a great addition and a much needed push in totally a new direction for me. Another PRS convertee......
