Product Description

The Artcore series from Ibanez has been a long-standing staple of their catalogue. Although the company are most renowned for their cutting-edge instruments aimed at hard rock and metal players, their Artcore line is for the old-school jazz cats and blues players. With premium specifications and a traditional construction, the AS93FML-VLS is an elegant guitar that offers far more than its modest price suggests.

Construction

The semi-hollow Maple body provides a super-bright and vibrant sound, with excellent resonance and acoustic-like projection. For chord-based playing, you'll get plenty of mid-range clarity and a sparkly top-end that'll easily cut through a busy mix.

Paired with a 3-piece Mahogany/Maple neck, you can expect a sturdy-feeling neck which will stay solid in contrasting conditions and temperatures. The tonal qualities of the Mahogany will offer some low-end warmth, making this a full-bodied and balanced-sounding instrument.

Electronics

The AS93FML-VLS sports a pair of medium-output Super 58 humbuckers, pickups that really lend themselves to jazz, blues and even rock. With Alnico magnets, these pickups have a pure and clear quality, with a rounded tone that's perfect for jazzy chords. Add some overdrive, and you'll achieve an incredibly smooth lead tone with the neck humbucker, and a bright sound with the bridge humbucker.

It is a well built semi-hollow body guitar, with a few detractions. First the tuners I would have expected to be better at this price point. The volume and tone nobs had just been attached to their pots and not indexed( SEE NOT BELOW FOR LEFTIES).I replaced the Potentiometers after having the guitar for four days, they were the cheap dime pots ( I was planning on this replacement when I purchased the guitar, I had 4 bareknuckle 550k CTS pots). But a note for anyone who cares the pots had .047 orange drops between the volume and tone for both the neck and the bridge pick ups. I plugged a cable into the guitar to check the Pick up's output will the volume put at full and they measured 7.51 on the neck, 7.35 on the bridge I am happy with my purchase, the Guitar plays very nice, resonates. The neck feels real nice the frets were all dressed and smooth. The binding looks good visually it it is stunning guitar, for the price it is exceptional compared to a Gibson 345 or 335 with a figured top ( the 345 is the same as a 335 but with Block inlays in the fret board which this Ibanez has that is why I compared it visually and of course the 335 with a figured top has block inlays in the fret board) The Gibson 335 figured and the 345 for lefties at the time of this review run $3.600 dollars here in the United States IF you can find one Left handed. *A note for only the Left hand Model. Ibanez use the exact same nobs on both the Left and the right hand models wired the same way, so on the Left Hand version Max value on both the volume and the tone pots is 0 and completely turned down is 10.

I am a strat man through and through but I wanted a 335 type guitar at a reasonable price point and this fit the bill. Its a beautiful guitar. Very solid and very different from what I am used to. The neck is much thicker than my strats and tele - its given me a bit of a workout breaking it in but its a very cool guitar. In terms of quality I just bought a left handed Gibson Faded Cherry Les Paul which cost more and feels much cheaper when compared to this. And it cost more.
