Product Description

The Fishman Rare Earth Humbucking sound hole pickup is a magnetic pickup similar to the pickups in an electric guitar. That doesn't mean it will sound like an electric guitar but it does mean you'll get a great tone thats warm and yet very well articulated. Situations you might need a magnetic pickup like the Rare Earth are when you're playing as part of a band and cutting through the mix is important, and also if you plan to use guitar FX like distortion or delays that would react badly to a microphone.

Here's what Fishman say about the Rare Earth Humbucking

The Rare Earth Humbucking pickup has been carefully re-voiced and fine-tuned to offer an even smoother treble response than their popular, category-defining predecessors.

Equipped with cutting-edge neodymium magnets, the new Rare Earth pickups offer a warmer, more naturally acoustic tone, along with exceptional accuracy and increased musicality.

  • Humbucking—Warm and full humbucking sound
  • Re-voiced and fine-tuned for smoother treble response and a warmer, more naturally acoustic tone
  • Active electronics and neodymium magnet structure for exceptional string balance and sparkling acoustic clarity
  • Miniature batteries mount conveniently on the underside of the pickup (batteries included)
  • Low current design of the preamp allows up to 300 hours between battery changes
  • Newly designed mounting system and ergonomic body shape
  • Pre-wired output jack can also be endpin mounted
  • Easy installation with no alteration – plug-and-play right out of the box

The pickup sounds more acoustic than electric, which is exactly what you want on an acoustic guitar. It does not have any piezo "clacking" because of its purely magnetic makeup. There don't seem to be any imbalances of tone or volume between the six strings; there are no adjuster screws if that were the case. The pickup does not reproduce almost any soundboard banging or scratching. The pickup looks unobtrusive and did not damage my precious guitar when installed by an industry professional. Just get one, and go loud!

Not happy with my Taylor Mini plugged in sound so had work down , not by your good selves , to disconect internal pick up and fix in the Rare Earth p/up . Love the sound now having tried out a couple of small gigs.

I've installed this in my early Taylor 812. I have been using a more expensive piezo pickup but found it picked up too much resonance when performing a high volume. Having changed the pickups in my 1972 telecaster to fishman fluence and been impressed, I thought I'd try the rare earth. I was very surpirsed that the tone still sounds so 'acoustic' whilst eliminating the problems I was having previously.

I have had an Epiphone EJ200 for a few years now, great guitar, great sound BUT the Shadow e-sonic pickups were not. The under-saddle became very noisy and finally gave up. The neck pickup became noisy and pretty much unusable. Stripped the lot out and fitted this single humbucker, easy to fit and sounds superb.

Fitted to my Martin D28. I use Elixir extra light nanowebs. Sounds fantastic through the LIne 6 amp and through a Tonewood amp.
