USA pickups and limited edition colour

This particular Strat is extra special. It's equipped with a trio of USA-made American Vintage '59 pickups for a rocking authentic vintage tone. You'll also stand out from the crowd thanks to a classy rare Daphne Blue finish.

Construction

We all want our Fender to age like a real vintage instrument. In the case of the Road Worn Strat, it will! It's coated in a nitrocellulose lacquer, allowing the paint to wear in beautifully over years of playing.

The Road Worn harks back to early Fender design, boasting a curved 7.25-inch radius fretboard and mid-'60s "C" shape neck, perfect for big bends and a thumb-over-fingerboard technique. The pau ferro fretboard and maple neck combination feels great with vintage tall frets under your fingers.

Sound

This is where the Limited Edition Road Worn comes into its own. The '60s Strat is packing a trio of low wound American Vintage '59 single coil pickups, which you'll also find on Fender Custom Shop guitars. Yep, they sound that good. The '59s produce a bell-like top end, rich in harmonics and with a lively bass. The alnico V magnets have a great effect on the focus, creating a slicing attack in the bridge position and a classic throaty lead tone in the neck.

Lovely, resonant character, sounds great and definitely looks the part. Needed a good setup and bit of attention after sitting in the box over a year but that’s to be expected. Very happy all in all

Buzzy, noisy and annoying. The Daphné blue colour is lovely, but the guitar plays like something you’d expect from a Squire starter pack, and not a £1000 guitar. Had to send it straight to a luthier to sand down the frets, replace the rusted pickup selector and the electrics, as well as fix up the noisy single coils. Not going to lie, I am disappointed and will be getting rid of this guitar in due course.

Bad points first! It looks like it had come into stock from the suppliers and shipped out immediately without any QC from Andertons as the frets were either unfinished or suffering from severe fret sprout and were really sharp!. Maybe I just got a bad one - it happens, but I thought you would check for this kind of thing. Considered returning it but as it is an FSR and in demand I feared they would be sold out so I bit the bullet and took it to a luthier to sort out (extra £85!) Good points, Now the frets are tip top it plays and feels wonderfully and looks gorgeous, especially as I tinted the orange pau ferro board to a dark rosewood - much more authentic! The Pure Vintage 59 pups sound awesome, chimey and warm and snappy and blend well with the guitars amazing resonance. Certainly a step up from my other standard LPB Vintera Roadworn Strat. Just need a Fiesta Red to complete the set!

Nitrocellulose lacquer finish in this price is precious. The vintage pickup sound matches with this vintage specifications.

Happy with the guitar. Don't know why it is £100 extra to get the blue one. Would have liked a tiny bit of movement on price or even a bit of merch or a set of strings after spending a few thousand pounds in recent months.

At first I wasn't sure about the guitar. The relic finish seemed a bit gimmicky but when put into context it makes sense. It's not like a custom shop finish but didn't cost custom shop money. It gives you a good starting point - I'm not worried about future dings and blemishes and the satin nitro finish should wear beautifully. For £999 it's s bargain. The neck feels 'just right' - nice profile, smooth worn finish and the 7.25 radius fingerboard is no problem to me - I actually prefer it to my American Strat and Tele which both have 9.5 radius. The pau ferro feels fine but doesn't look as good as rosewood but some Montypresso treatment will sort that out. The vintage type frets are great. The guitar is certainly not heavy, but not as light as a real vintage guitar. However it does play and feel like a vintage guitar. My only criticism here is that the nut hasn't been cut right for the 9 gauge strings it was shipped with - the b and high e sound a bit sitar- y. Once restrung with preferred 10's should sort this out. The sound? Wow! These 59 pickups sound fantastic, really open and articluate. All positions sound great. The electronics, pots, jack and switch all work and feel great - again better than my American strat and tele. I'd 'gone off' playing Strats. Not any more! If there's any left you need to bag one before they're all gone.

And the guitar, I love it! Took some minor fret polish and setup for my liking, but now it plays as well as it sounds - fantastic. It truly has that vintage, unmistakable strat tone - glassy, bright but full.
