Product Description

While it may not be as iconic as some of Fender's other famous designs, the Mustang has become a model beloved by many for its short scale length, unique body shape, and tone. Originally introduced as a student guitar in 1964 and has experienced a renaissance since the 90s thanks to its popularity with grunge, indie, and alternative guitarists. This Mustang is part of Fender's affordable Player series, staying true to its legacy as a great quality, yet accessible guitar.

Short Scale

The main feature that separates the Mustang from other Fender models is the 24" scale length (distance between the bridge and nut).  A shorter scale length means lower string tension making it easier to fret and bend the strings and also provides and warmer tone. This is great for beginners or experienced guitarists who want something different in their arsenal. Short scale guitars also pair with heavier gauge strings if you want a thicker tone without super-tight strings that could strain your fingers.

Single-Coil Pickups

This guitar features two Mustang-style single-coil pickups with a 3-way toggle switch. In the neck position you get warm, smooth tones, in the middle you get spanky funk tones, in the bridge you get a brighter, more biting tone. The single-coil pickups provide clear and articulate sounds, but as mentioned earlier, Mustangs were beloved by grunge and alternative artists so they definitely handle dirt well!

Mr Tony White22nd May 2022

Sadly having recently been hit by arthritis I found playing my usual guitars (Fender strat and PRS Custom) painful after maybe 10 mins. I saw reviews of this thought I'd give it a try - well it was that or stop playing I guess. I know there are meds and physio stuff and I am availing myself of these but still. Anyway, back at the ranch as they say, played for first time last night at a fund raiser gig. Guitar is light and with a slightly shorter scale length .. much easier and comfortable to play, though due to reduced finger strength / durability I did drop the sting gauge a bit. Great neck pickup sound for clean, slightly and heavy over-driven stuff. OK we don't play in a stadium so, you know, while I understand this is not the absolute best Fender can give, it certainly can deliver. The bridge is sharp, maybe a little too much??, for me, so good for a bit of 'Tele' action with tone rolled back a touch. Now had the guitar for about a couple of weeks and played live once so far. I will now be using it for main and go to instrument. That said, I cannot speak to its long term durability but I guess it would be as any Mex Fender probably? Love the colour too. Oddly, our local guitar shop had a second hand one in, but in a different colour. I tried it but for whatever reason I just couldn't seem to get on with that one. Odd hey but there we are.
