The Custom Shop takes the very best of Fender's creativity and craftsmanship to create unique instruments with incredible looks and tone. The Custom Shop Telecaster is based on a vintage model with its ash body and '51 Nocaster bridge pickup. However, with its Twisted Tele neck pickup and Texas Tea finish, it adds a non-traditional twist. Bringing together elements of vintage and modern, this certainly isn't your average Tele.
Lightweight Ash Body
As this model is based on the ‘52 Tele we’ve stayed true to the era and opted for an ash body. Ash has an impressive natural resonance which really helps the notes ring out. It also has the added benefit of being lightweight so it won’t take a toll on your back while you’re standing up. The body has been given the relic treatment which gives it that vintage, well-played look but with a modern Texas Tea finish which may appear black but when it catches the light in certain ways it takes on shades of copper and dark green. Paired up with an anodised silver pickguard and you get a true mashup of old and new school aesthetic.
Comfortable, Worn-In Neck
The neck shape is a “Large C” profile which is a versatile shape that accommodates a range of playing styles and fills the hand nicely without feeling too cumbersome. The neck and fingerboard have also been relic’d for an instantly familiar feel that’s smooth and worn-in. The fingerboard is a more modern 9.5” radius which is more comfortable for soloing and note bends but still has some curve for comfortably fretting chords.
Classic Tele Tone
With a guitar so heavily inspired by vintage Teles we, of course, had to get that classic Telecaster sound. In the bridge this Tele has a ‘51 Nocaster pickup which stays true to tone of one of the earliest models. Bright, clear, and direct, the ‘51 Nocaster embodies that iconic Tele tone. In the neck is the less-traditional Twisted Tele pickup which accommodates more windings than a traditional Tele pickup for a brighter, glassier tone with a Strat-like character.
