Product Description

Back in 1950, Fender brought the electric solid-body guitar to life – Ash body, Maple neck, 2 single-coil pickups and that iconic translucent blonde nitrocellulose finish. They called it the Broadcaster, and it was famously short-lived thanks to a trademark dispute with Gretsch.

To honour the 70th Anniversary of this near-mythical instrument, Fender has resurrected the Broadcaster for an ultra-special limited run. This is a true vintage Fender experience like no other!

Body & Neck

Make no mistake – this guitar is remarkably authentic. Ash was famously used extensively by Fender in the early years due to its availability – it became synonymous with the Fender single-coil sound. The Broadcaster’s body features a genuine Ash body with a period-correct nitrocellulose lacquer finish, offering an open and resonant sound.

The one-piece Maple neck features a thick ‘50s "U" profile, complete with a 7.25" radius and 21 vintage tall frets that provide a comfortable, familiar playing experience.

Hardware & Electronics

One element that’s remained largely unchanged with the Broadcaster’s descendants is the dual single-coil configuration with 3-way switching. For the 70th Anniversary model, Fender has opted for a set of Custom Shop hand-wound ’50-’51 Blackguard pickups wired for standard Telecaster operation.

An optional original Broadcaster wiring kit is included in the case, which can be installed to replicate the unique "blend" circuit used in original Broadcasters. Other additional features include a special anniversary neck plate, and an embroidered hard case with a custom Certificate of Authenticity.

Apart from the obvious nostalgic appeal, this guitar is beautifully made and finished and feels like it wants to be played. Set up is perfect and the custom pickups sound excellent. Case candy and exclusive anniversary additions all add to the appeal of this guitar and it is easy to see why this was so pivotal in Leo Fender’s success. Expensive for a Tele but worth every penny.

Beautiful instrument, great wood grain through the thin lacquer. Definitely worth the small increase in price over the American Original. The guitar plays brilliantly with a low action straight out of the case. The custom shop blackguard pickups are exactly the tone I was after.

This guitar is awesome. It just wants to be plugged straight into an amp and turned up loud. Looks better in reality compared to the pictures. The lacquer on the neck is a bit sticky but that is to be expected. There is the possibility down the road that it gets sanded down, maybe. The neck is really comfortable for me. I have large hands and the U profile sits nicely. Vintage frets are smaller than I thought and take a little getting used too but they add to the vibe. The pickups sound amazing straight into the amp. I think it is a darker sounding telecaster but still sizzles. Only thing is it doesn’t seem to like my drive pedals, it sounds best with amp breakup or a treble booster. Ohh and the final thing. It’s light. It’s the lightest guitar I’ve ever owned. It’s much lighter than my road worn Mex. Tele.
