Product Description

The EB-0 is a classic SG Style bass guitar that became extremely popular in the '60s. Its punchy Side Winder pickup delivers a real rock growl, and its slightly shorter scale length ensures it's simple to play. Accessibility and top-quality sound, what's not to love?

Modern Reimagining

This Epiphone EB-0 is a modern recreation of the iconic model that solidified its place with bassists everywhere during the golden age of rock. Epiphone's engineers meticulously studied the original instrument, distilling all of its style and sound into this current-day variant. Even though it is lightweight and small in size, it packs a real punch; it would be foolish to underestimate it!

Bear in mind this is a £200 instrument and probably not as well manufactured as more expensive instruments. In my experience bass guitars are quite crude anyway compared to six-strings and my more expensive basses aren't hugely better. Specifically the strings feel quite cheap and I will exchange them shortly. The frets also feel a bit thick and clunky. Overall it is not a bad instrument and the sound is that nice muddy feel. There are only two controls, volume and tone which makes it less mind-bending in trying to get the right sound. It is heavier than expected and as reviewed on the internet suffers from neck-dive. I don't find this a problem as I normally anchor the body with my plucking hand. I personally use the moving thumb technique and a thumb rest would be useful, but it's no real problem. I like it, it was a simple experiment to see how a short-scale played and I find it certainly easier to play than a long-scale. I would imagine that it would make a great starter for a child or for those who haven't got a great hand span.

I'm a left handed guitarist, but I needed a bass for teaching and recording. The EB0 was easy to flip over and I'd always liked the sound and feel of them. Obviously, I needed a bit of time to set it up, but I imagine a right hander would want to tweek it a bit as you'd expect for £200. I've also put some flatwounds on it which have really enhanced its character. Lots of very rich low end and you won't be able to play any Kajagoogo on it - thank God - but perfect for my needs. I suspect that you'd need the right amp and speaker set up before this sounded great live, just because it is so focused on the bottom end.

great budget bass

Firstly, I'm no bass player. I bought this instrument to learn on. I find it very easy it play and has a lovely deep warm tone from that huge neck humbucker. I'm currently having great relaxation jamming along to reggae tracks and I intend to learn more styles of playing in time. Very happy with the purchase. The bass is basic but well made and has so far (two weeks on) stayed well in tune. So I got what I wanted
