Baritone Guitars

The baritone guitar was first introduced in the late 1950s by the Danelectro Company and quickly found popularity in surf music and film scores, particularly "Spaghetti Westerns". Featuring an extended scale length, thicker strings and lower tunings, baritone guitars are an extremely useful tool to have in your collection. Baritones are played in the same way as a standard guitar and whilst no "standard" tuning has been established for them, they are often tuned a perfect 4th or 5th lower than standard.

Baritone guitars saw a rise in popularity in the 1980s with many Heavy Metal bands starting to experiment with lower and drop tunings. Bands such as Carcass, Metallica, Dream Theater and Korn have all employed baritone guitars to fatten up their crushing riffs.

Some notable songs that feature a baritone guitar include Wichita Lineman (Glenn Campbell), Bonnie Came Back (Duane Eddie), Spanked (Van Halen) and Dance, Dance Dance (The Beach Boys).

Here at Andertons Music Co. we stock a range of solid body electric baritone guitars from Danelectro, Schecter, Squier, Chapman, Gretsch and many more, so check them out today and add something different to your collection!
