PRS’ reputation has always been impeccable. Since 1985, they have produced high-quality instruments that have been played by countless artists of all different styles. Combining beauty with functionality, their guitars are renowned for their looks, tones, and playability. Every time you pick up a PRS - you will feel inspired.
The Custom 22 is a modern classic, with its elegant double-cutaway body, set-neck construction and high-quality electronics and hardware. This model sports dual 85/15 humbuckers, allowing you to achieve a wide range of sounds that make this a versatile guitar for the studio and the stage.
2 Frets Less, More Tones
Taking away 2 frets may not seem like a big deal. However, for a dual humbucker guitar, it completely affects the tone of the instrument – in a good way! As the Rosewood fretboard is slightly shorter, to maintain the same scale length and tension you need to move the bridge further back. This therefore widens the gap between the neck and bridge pickups, and while the bridge pickup will still sound the same and have plenty of bite, the neck pickup will produce a warmer tone as it is closer to the centre of the guitar’s scale length.
The Custom 22 offers you a greater variety of sounds over the Custom 24, and you can play blues and jazz styles with a more convincing tone thanks to the neck pickup’s darker sound. 22 frets also provides a more classic look, if that’s what you’re into!
Made In Maryland
Like all USA PRS guitars, this Custom 22 has been made in their Maryland factory. During the building process, they mix the wisdom and skills of their experienced luthiers with the consistency of machines, to make a guitar to the highest quality every time while still keeping that personal hand-made touch.
Featuring a Mahogany body topped with a beautiful Figured Maple top, this guitar has a rich and balanced sound with a focused mid-range that cuts through the mix. The Mahogany neck on this guitar has been cut to PRS' “Pattern Vintage” profile. Designed to offer an old-school feel, this neck has a thick and substantial shape that offers great support for your thumb.
In recent years, PRS have started creating a wider range of pickups all based on vintage-style PAFs, but with modern twists to make them more suitable for the contemporary guitarist. Installed in this model are the 85/15 pickups, which focus on providing the best sound for today's guitarist.
When compared to other pickups PRS, like the 58/08s and 59/09s, these pickups have impeccable clarity with extended high and low-end to make sure that you can get the tone you want every time you plug it in!
Not many companies can say that they have spent so long getting their hardware just perfect. PRS are one of the few that can. The PRS Gen III Tremolo and Phase III Locking tuners work together in perfect harmony to keep the guitar in tune - no matter how extreme you play.
