Product Description

Best known for his work with The Clash, Joe Strummer was the embodiment of Punk culture and a crucial component to its development. Strummer commanded the stage and played guitar with an intensity that cut like a knife with a raw energy and passion. His most heavily used guitar throughout the London Calling and Combat Rock era was his trusty Fender Esquire. It's stripped down, no nonsense delivery was the perfect tool for Strummer to hammer away on show after show - no frills, just pure unadulterated attitude! The guitar was one of Strummer’s favourites and appeared on many of his most famous performances especially in the latter years of the band.

The Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Limited Edition Joe Strummer Esquire Relic is a tribute to the legendary Punk Rocker and has been painstakingly recreated by Masterbuilder Jason Smith.

Construction

The Joe Strummer Esquire features a 2-piece offset seam Alder body, adorned with a cool black racing stripe and a custom “Bourbon Street” sticker. The relic finish gives the Esquire an authentic aged vibe, capturing the essence of Strummer's raw and angsty playing style. The neck is made from flat-sawn Maple and the ’59 “C” neck profile is comfortable and true to the original. A beautiful Rosewood fingerboard is topped with medium jumbo frets and has a 9.5" radius for a comfortable playability while you're hammering out those power chords!

Electronics

Featuring a single Custom Shop Josephina hand-wound 55/56 bridge pickup, the Joe Strummer Esquire is a stripped back, tonal powerhouse. The pickup is wired up to a 3-way switch with ‘59 Esquire wiring and a master volume and tone control keep things simple. Unsurprisingly, the Esquire is more than capable of delivering aggressive, ballsy rock tones but it is by no means a one trick pony. You'll find a number of sparkly cleans tones are achievable too, should you wish to show your softer side!

Hardware

True to the original, the Joe Strummer Esquire features a top-load/string-through Tele® bridge assembly with threaded steel saddles for accurate intonation. A set of Schaller mini tuners provide excellent tuning stability, no matter how hard you beat the guitar. Let's make one thing clear here...this guitar is not just for the collectors, it's built to take a beating and deliver searing tones for anyone bold enough to wield it in combat on stage!

The Joe Strummer Esquire comes in a custom pink Anvil case with “Strummer” stencil and leopard print lining and includes a certificate of authenticity and custom leopard strap.
