Body & Neck

Chapman have opted for solid Mahogany for the body, providing you with brilliant resonance and uncompromising sustain. The satin finish and contoured top ensure a classy, understated aesthetic and a comfy playing experience in equal measure.

For the neck, they've stuck with satin-finished Mahogany, with a set-neck configuration featuring a volute. This reinforcement, combined with a dual-action truss rod, means sturdy tuning stability and excellent proficiency with drop-tuning. The satin finish and familiar C-shape neck means you'll be right at home, whatever your style!

Hardware & Electronics

Chapman have loaded the ML3 Pro Modern with two Madrigal humbuckers; power, clarity, a dense midrange and a hefty low-end perfectly complements the Mahogany construction. Expect soaring sustain and a punchy modern sound, clean or distorted.

A 5-way pickup switch and a push-pull coil-tap vastly expands your tonal palette. What first appears to be a simple HH configuration suddenly becomes a hugely versatile instrument that'll efficiently handle whatever you throw at it. Top it off with Hipshot grip-lock open tuners, a Graph tech black tusq XL nut and alluring black hardware across the board, and you've struck the perfect balance between versatility and attitude.

After 1 month of ownership this is my go to guitar. Out of the box everything was perfect. The cleans tones are good, but when overdriven, that is where this guitar is happiest. The setup is low but absolutley no fret buzz. The frets are so smooth and makes the guitar a breeze to play. The pickups on the guitar were the only thing I was questionable about before purchasing online, but after 1 chord, I had no more hesitations. They can play heavy drivin amps but still have a clarity that surprised me. 100% recommend a Chapman ML3 PRO modern.

Mr. William George21st Feb 2019

So to start on the body, the satin finish is great quality, I've owned a satin finish Bass before and after 3 weeks the paint started to turn shiny near the top of the bridge, the ML3 looks as good as the day I opened the case. The cutaway is well defined so even with my big fingers, I can reach the 24th frets. The strap buttons are ready for the strap locks immediately, so no need to get a screwdriver out and remove anything. The pick ups look beautiful, they sound really good in comparison to other stock pick ups I have heard in guitars ranging from £200-450, audiophiles might have the "ear" to pick up fault, but they sound great to me. The pick up selector is tight and clean to switch, one guitar I have would crackle if you switched mid chord, but that might be loose wiring, on the ML3 it has a tiny 3ms drop as you change, no crackle. The bridge is fixed and is well machined, no course areas that might cut a string, string through makes it so easy to swap out strings once they've lost that bright sound. Onto the neck. The frets are well dressed, the edges are rolled inwards so you don't feel any over hang from the fret wires. I've only had Rosewood fingerboards, but I'm totally sold on Ebony wood now, it really has another feel, I'd say less grain and harder, therefor you feel like you're running your fingers across a smooth surface. It took me a little while to adjust to the neck, simply because I was so used to ruff edges and the grain gave me a clue to finger placement, but I'm loving it now (1 month on) Tuners. I love these locking tuners, I didn't realise that you only need to thread the string through once, lock, snip the excess and tune up I was used to 2/3 winds around the post. The stability of tuning is amazing, I really have to repeatedly divebomb the E/B to make this drop a bit, if I was going to bend endlessly then a locking nut might have been good, but those are really for floating bridges from my understanding. It was set up perfectly, I really have to whack the low E to get a buzz, and the action is wonderfully low so the lightest presses are needed to play fast, no more crunching my fingers down to get a ringing note. For the hardcase it's a really good tough case, soft felt lined with 2 compartments for string packs and other bits. A cloth is included for cleaning. Summary time I think for the money you spend, you get a guitar that gives you your monies worth, and a bit extra as a bonus. I spent a week comparing guitars from all the big names that have the same price range, some had no locking tuners, don't come with a Hardcase or used cheaper woods, or made in the cheaper model factories. With the Chapman line, you may lose some of that "Big name", but.... I think with how hard Chapman and Co are pushing into the US and taking advice, ideas and criticism, they've really evolved the brand, and shown that a guitar needs to be worth the money the manufacturer asks, not just namesake. I am loving my ML3 and I will keep my eye out for the next generation in the future. 9/10

Fantastic guitar. Out of the box it was set up, needed slight re-tuning. Sounds and plays great

Mr Steven Bressington8th Jul 2017

Was really excited for this guitar but it was so badly set up and the finish of the wood was not great. Would be helpful to have a little manual to tell you what the 5 positions on the blade switch did as well. Hoping I'll be happier with it when it's set up properly.
