Product Description

The ML3 Modern is a T-style guitar that combines classic design with a modern edge. Punchy pickups, slick looks and a simple, comfortable playability make the ML3 Modern a performance instrument through and through. Better still, the V2 models are made in a new factory - baked tonewoods for improved resonance and durability, improved rolled fretboard edges and US-made pickup magnets. They're onto a winner...

New and Improved Pickups

All V2 Chapman instruments are equipped with brand new pickups made in-house in their new factory. Unlike their previous pickup designs, these feature new magnets sourced specially from the US. Many guitar pickups use generic magnets, the same that you might find in cars or household appliances - these are tailor-made for use in guitars. If you thought the previous humbuckers and single coils sounded great, you’ll love the fresh tone of these precisely-wound models.

Chapman have re-voiced the pickups to provide crisper articulation, a more pronounced midrange and smoother low and high-end frequencies. You’re guaranteed to get studio sound quality and brilliant definition in live use.

Body & Neck

Chapman have opted for a combination of Mahogany for the body and Flamed Maple veneer for the top, providing you with brilliant resonance and a healthy dose of twang - not to mention a striking aesthetic. The gloss finish and subtle contours offer a comfy playing experience and a classy sheen that'll have you spellbound at first sight.

For the neck, they've gone with bolt-on Maple with a satin finish and volute. This reinforcement, combined with a dual-action truss rod, means sturdy tuning stability and excellent proficiency with drop-tuning. The satin finish and familiar C-shape neck means you'll be right at home, whatever your style!

Hardware & Electronics

Chapman have loaded the ML3 Modern with two Sonorous Zero humbuckers; power, clarity, a dense midrange and a hefty low-end perfectly complements the Mahogany construction. Expect soaring sustain and a punchy modern sound, clean or distorted, thanks to the use of modern ceramic magnets.

A 3-way pickup switch and a push-pull coil-tap vastly expands your tonal palette. What first appears to be a simple HH configuration suddenly becomes a hugely versatile instrument that'll efficiently handle whatever you throw at it. Top it off with a Graph tech black tusq XL nut and alluring black hardware across the board, and you've struck the perfect balance between versatility and attitude.

I don't normally leave reviews but thought i would on this occasion as there's a lot of mixed opinions online about Chapman guitars. The website pictures don't do this guitar justice, the pictures of its ML1 equivalent more accurate show the colour scheme. Setup was good out of the box and some additional comfort knowing Andertons had QC'd the item prior to delivery. Action is likely slightly high for some but its ok for me, most would adjust that anyway. Sounds great, looks great and plays well. Good value as well in the January sale.

An absolute stunner, love the colour, the neck and fretboard are very comfortable in use, the pickups are fantastic, with the split coil option you can go from a whisper to a scream in a second. Controls are very well postioned. Brilliant build quality all in all.

This guitar feels and sounds great. The first time playing it, it gave me new inspiration. That's what an instrument is about. Plus it looks amazing!

After seeing the mixed reviews I was a bit nervous buying this but I’m so glad I did. This is a fantastically built beautiful guitar, the finish is gorgeous and just like the images on the website. The hardware is solid. The guitar came perfectly intonated and spotless, it stays in tune great! It’s actually outrageous how good these stock chapman pickups are. They definitely run hot but they’re really versatile pickups. I could write loads more but overall I’m incredibly happy with this guitar.

In my case the guitar was on showcase and not brand new, but it doesn’t really show. There are no scratches or dents as far as I can see but the volume and tone nobs seem a little loose.

Firstly, the guitar plays well and the neck feel and overall build quality is very good. The pickups are quite hot but when split you can get some excellent clean tones, and the guitar stays in tune very well. Out of the box the setup was quite decent, with no buzzing frets, low action, and good intonation. With the pre installed strings it will stay in tune down in drop c without going out of tune too much, but I will definitely put some 11s on there with a low 60 gauge for extra stability on the dropped C. My only issue with the guitar is that the finish is absolutely terrible. The advertised finish everywhere over the internet is a vibrant cyanish blue that fades into a darker blue and on chapmans own website it even looks like it has a satin finish. In reality you get a very underwhelming grayish blue that fades into a much pinker purple over a quite weak flamed maple top. The thing sounds and plays great but is an eyesore when in reality it should look beautiful and elegant. Through talking with support it also seems that every ML3 Standard V2 Abyss has this issue which is absolutely mind boggling. A guitar that cost me over 500 euros should definitely have a higher quality finish than a 200 euro affinity strat, or even a 100 euro harley benton for that matter. Overall I decided to keep the guitar, playing it does bring me joy but looking at it just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth, and overall disappointment. This was my first Chapman guitar and will probably be my last one if this is how they are going to handle the manufacturing and advertising of a product. It has been an absolute bait and switch between what was advertised and what was sold, not once, but many times throughout the year and I’m honestly very surprised that nobody else has spoken up about it.

I bought this for my son... I struggled!! a 440quid guitar that sounds and plays better than my old PRS custom 22! needless to say, I'm getting a chapman for myself now! The value for money bar should go higher!
