The Pinnacle v2 is a step up from its former v1 brother which was very much regarded as a 'Brown SOund' pedal giving you that high gain, Eddie Van Halen tone.
This version of the pedal still has the ability to go high-gain, but with a slightly differently gain structure giving it more versatility and allowing you to dial in less gain with the same punch and cut that you'd need for a rock band.
So, it's no one trick pony because you can go from mild overdriven boost, to all out brutal gain if you need it.
The toggle pretty much speaks for itself, altering the amount of gain on tap, allowing you to do AC/DC style classic rock, to heavier more modern treadplate sounds.
The Mid Contour switch gives you access to a flat mid when set at 12 o'clock or a scoop or mid-hump when you go from left to right. This will allow you to dial in specific tones for specific genres. For example, thrash metal guys may want a scooped mid, but modern rockers like to have a high mid-range presence.
Here's what Wampler say about the Pinnacle overdrive/distortion pedal

The trouble with distortion pedals is that many of them only serve one function. We all know that the distinguished tone chaser sometimes needs extreme gain, sometimes needs mild overdrive… sometimes needs something that does both of the above and everything in between. The Pinnacle not only does that, but it also brings the most convincing “Brown Sound” to be ever heard in a pedal!
With two separate styles of gain structure, a powerful mid contour (from scooped to mid hump) control and a control that squeezes out every ounce of tone from your guitar, you’ll notice that the Pinnacle is called that for a very good reason.
Although extremely versatile the Pinnacle is well known for giving the “Brown Sound”, the tone and style of distortion made famous by Eddie Van Halen. Zeke Clark (Van Halen’s longtime renowned guitar tech) played through a pinnacle and this is what he had to say: “I’ve played tons of pedals that promised that “Brown Sound”… this pedal NAILS it better than anything I’ve ever heard or played.”
Pinnacle v. Pinnacle “deluxe”
The Pinnacle and Pinnacle Deluxe share the same great tone. The difference comes in the form of a couple special features found on the Deluxe version that make it more involved for us to make, but which add some extra versatility for you. While the standard Pinnacle has a toggle switch to control its Gain Boost, the Pinnacle Deluxe has that same functionality on a foot switch, so you can kick it in without having to bend down in the middle of a song. The only other difference is that the Pinnacle Deluxe has an additional, internal volume adjustment (just in case you need to go to “11” on the output volume). Because of the added switch, the Pinnacle Deluxe is a little bit larger than the standard Pinnacle, something to keep in mind if you're running a packed pedal board.
Which Pinnacle is right for you isn't a question of tone, because they both nail that coveted “Brown Sound”..! It just comes down to whether you need the special features found on the Pinnacle Deluxe, or prefer the smaller footprint of the standard Pinnacle.
