Product Description

The Victory RD1 is an amazing tiny amplifier that can easily go from crushing, rock ready high gain to crush and clean tones all in one channel. Some wanted a version of this amplifier with a more subtle colour scheme so here it is! The BD1, the same amazing amp in a new all black colour scheme.

For Stage and Home

We have all experienced the pain of buying an amplifier that just is too loud for home use. The BD1 is rated at 28w which is great for live use but for most homes is a bit too much. So they have introduced a low power mode as well. Rated at just 2w this mode is perfect for home and studio use where you need to be careful of how loud you go

Simple Controls

While the Victory Silverback Rob Chapman signature has every possible sound under the sun and is all controllable through multiple channels. The BD1 is a much more laid back design that gives you just 3 knobs and two switches but still a wide range of tones that will cover everything you will need.

Your three control knobs on this amp control your Gain, Volume and Contour. The Contour control is similar to a tone control on most amps but a bit with a wider sweet focused on the low mids and lows. This is then accompanied by both a Bright and Deep switch which change the treble and bass response respectively.

From Clean To Insane

You may be a bit skeptical about how versatile this amp really is. If so you can rest assured that with a bit of control over your guitars volume this amp really does deliver everything you need for rock, metal, blues etc.. At about halfway up the gain control you get a beautiful middle of the road sound like a boosted vintage amp and as the gain goes up from there you get more modern tones and much higher gain.

The best way to use an amplifier like this is to set it up with the maximum amount of gain you want and then use a volume pedal or your guitars volume control to get your clean and crunch options. Not bothered about high gain? No problem just set the gain control bellow midday and you will get sweet crunch tones that still clean up like a dream.

Made In England

Like all Victory amplifiers the BD1 is made in England using top quality parts that will last you for years to come. In fact because of the way they have biased this amp you valves are going to last a lot longer than in other similarly sized and priced valve amps. Not many other amps can claim the same build quality as this amp for the same price.

Here's what Victory say about the BD1

Victory Amplification from the UK proudly announces the BD1 Head as part of the award-winning Compact Series. The BD1 is a standard version of the Rob Chapman RD1 Signature model, sharing exactly the same all-valve design, circuit and feature set, but finished in black (the RD1 is bright red). It's just 263mm wide and weighs only 6kg.
This ultra compact, single-channel head is a superb sounding rock machine designed for real, all-valve tone wherever you go. Up to 28 watts in full-power mode makes it great for gigging, while the two-watt setting will keep the neighbours happy!

Unsure at moment , about performance of Bd1 , as single 12 inch speakers I'VE tried are not the same as demo's on YouTube, the amp is quiet as far as hum is concerned for a valve amp . I liked the info on bias,as not many manufacturers give this information.

I am huge Marshall amplification fan and have found that my Marshall's are just not suited to small gigs, so after watching and reading many reviews about the range of low wattage Victory amps and having been fortunate enough to play Rob Chapman's personal RD1, I decided to purchase the BD1. Straight out of the box it was apparent that this amp was high quality just by looking and feeling the amp. My first impression of the amp after plugging it in was sheer delight, it was extremely satisfying to play a pure valve amp at lower volumes that retained all the dynamics, pick attack and transients that make valve amps so inspiring to play. Despite having only 3 control knobs and two micro switches, the amount of varying tones achievable is amazing while no control is ever too extreme. The control range provided by each know is so well proportioned. Having an effects loop with a mix control is also a major asset to this amplifier as being a single channel non master volume amp, you are limited as to what you can put in front of the preamp if you want to use this amp for your dirty tones (which you will!) The day I took delivery of the BD1 I took it to an outdoor festival performance that evening without any studio tweaking time as I felt satisfied of my testing at home on low volumes, and I was not disappointed. I would recommend this amplifier to any blues/rock guitarist that loves that British sound but does not is unable to crank their Marshall to get it. At 28 watts it has more than enough volume for most venues.
