Product Description

TC Electronic have a had a long career with creating bass gear...but oddly enough not pedals, until now that is. The SpectraComp bass compressor is a small and simple 1 knob pedal that uses powerful multiband technology so you have constant compression across all of your strings, not many compressors can say that.

Multiband Technology
With most compressors you have a constant battle between compression on your high and low strings. Set the compression to high and you lose all of the dynamics in the higher end. Add too little compression and your higher strings wont have that consistent dynamic punch you are looking for. By using a studio grade multiband compressor base this pedal out of the box is set up with perfect compression for every note on the fretboard.

Controls
One control is all you need with the SpectraComp as the multiband technology controls everything else. You can dive in deeper with the Toneprint controls but for a lot of people the master compression control on the front will handle it all.

Toneprint
This is one of the best reasons to buy a TC Electronic pedal. By plugging in this pedal in to your PC, Mac or iPad you can modify pretty much any parameter within the compression. Want to squash certain frequencies more- Or control the attack and release- No problem you have everything you need with the free Toneprint software. This also means that the pedal is able to have fewer controls making it easier to transport. If you wanted this much control over your compression with physical knobs it would soon become the size of your entire pedalboard.

Here's what TC Electronic say about the SpectraComp

SpectraComp Bass Compressor is the tiniest big thing to hit the world of bass in a long time. This ultra-compact and highly intuitive multiband compressor, is made to bring out all of the glorious low-end punch and presence of your beloved bass in the most transparent and musical way you've ever heard. Just turn it on and take charge of the groove.

A Multiband Marvel
We first introduced the magic of multiband bass compression in our innovative RH-series bass amps, which made dialing in super-smooth compression an absolute breeze. With SpectraComp Bass Compressor we've kept the simplistic one-knob approach from the amps, while greatly improving the compression algorithm. This gives you access to studio-quality compression tones, in a stompbox so small that you can't afford not to have it on your board.

Honey, We Shrunk The Studio
SpectraComp Bass Compressor contains the same high-quality MD3 dynamics engine known from our studio production powerhouse, System 6000. A dynamics engine that has been used on countless hit-records and massive blockbuster movie productions. This advanced algorithm applies perfectly tweaked compression for your high, mid and low frequencies to create a more unified and balanced sound where your low strings never overtake your highs, something that's simply not possible with the one-size-fits-all compression known from a typical stompbox. This way you'll get a tight and punchy attack, with endless sustain all without ever compromising the natural low-end response of your bass.

TonePrint - Deep Dynamic Editing
Picture SpectraComp Bass Compressor as an ice cream. It's smooth, delicious and easy to love. But maybe you want to super-pimp your ice cream with cherries, chocolate sauce and sprinkles shaped like unicorns- You want to make that tone-sundae your own. This is where TonePrint comes into play. Via the free editor you can customize your own compression tone through a wealth of deep editing parameters, so it suits your rig perfectly. You can also try on custom pre-made tones via the free app for Android and iOS. Tone tweaking just leveled up.

I mainly bought this for use with my 6-string bass. I was using a generic guitar compressor to try and even out the highs on the C with the lows on the B, but it wasn't quite hitting the spot. I'd read reviews so knew that the standard tone print on the SpectraComp wouldn't necessarily blow me away, so I got the app in preparation for the pedal and found a few presets to try out. The process of 'beaming' them to the pedal is pretty weird, but does the job! If you're planning on switching between basses in a gig that require different styles of compression I can appreciate it's not the best solution, but for my needs it works just fine. There's a wide range of presets to go through, and I haven't even tried making my own yet (I've mainly been using one of Janek Gwizdala's chordal ones for my 6-string). The pedal feels robust, and the small size works out well for my setup.

First example was not operational and had to be replaced. Second worked fine and may become a permanent member of the pedal board, but not convinced as yet.
