Named after the guitar shop where Taylor Guitars started in 1974, the appropriately titled American Dream series is Taylor’s entry-point for those looking for an American-made, all-solid wood acoustic guitar. Featuring Taylor’s innovative V-Class bracing, Grand Pacific body shape, and rich all-solid wood tone; the AD17’s affordability doesn’t come at the cost of Taylor’s signature sound and craftsmanship.
Grand Pacific Body Shape
The American Dream series utilises Taylor’s Grand Pacific body shape. The Grand Pacific is a modern take on the classic round-shoulder dreadnought that retains the powerful yet warm sound of a dreadnought but with more clarity and note-definition, particularly in the low-end. Great for fingerpicking or strumming, the Grand Pacific body is well-suited to a wide variety of genres. The power of the Grand Pacific also makes it a great companion for singer-songwriters as it has plenty of volume. For added comfort, the body edges are chamfered to prevent them digging into your arm as you play.
V-Class Bracing
The American Dream series also makes use of Taylor’s V-Class bracing. When it comes to bracing an acoustic guitar top there’s usually a trade-off between volume and sustain. Head designer Andy Powers set out to change that with V-Class bracing. With V-Class, the top is flexible in some places and stiff in others so you can get the best of both worlds. The result is a guitar that's loud, has plenty of sustain, and has the added benefit of improved intonation.
All-Solid Wood Body
For a rich and complex tonal character, the American Dream series features an all-solid wood body. The AD17 features solid ovangkol back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top. Ovangkol has a similar tonal character to rosewood, offering clear highs and a robust low-end but with a bit more midrange emphasis. The Sitka spruce top complements the ovangkol with its balanced and even tone. These tonewoods, in combination with the Grand Pacific body shape and V-Class bracing, make for a highly versatile guitar that’ll handle anything you throw at it.
