Product Description

The Custom 24 is the definitive PRS guitar. Unveiled at the 1985 NAMM Show, this stellar six-string was PRS’ very first production model and it remains their most popular instrument even today. Distinctive for its flying bird fingerboard inlays, dual humbuckers, 24 frets, 25" scale and ergonomic contours — the Custom 24 is considered a modern classic among guitarists.

This SE version of the iconic Custom 24 possesses all of those signature features, but is available at an affordable price-point that's attainable for most! Finished in a gorgeous Black Gold Burst colour, this instrument's versatile sonics and remarkable playability makes it suitable for all styles.

Rich Mahogany Body

The PRS SE Custom 24 sports a Mahogany body, delivering a warm sound with plenty of harmonic richness in the mid-range. Adorned with an amazing Flamed Maple top veneer top that boasts a shallow violin carve, this instrument's beauty is guaranteed to inspire you to pick it up and play for hours on end.

"Wide Thin" Neck

Joining the body is a bright-sounding Maple neck shaped to PRS' contemporary "Wide Thin" profile. While the material adds plenty of top-end snap to give notes more immediacy, the unique neck carve provides an incredibly modern and playable feel. The neck is also topped with a silky smooth Rosewood fingerboard that offers a luxurious touch under the fingers.

85/15 "S" Pickups

The pickups in this guitar are based on the acclaimed 85/15 humbuckers that have recently been used in PRS' US-made "Core" Custom 24 models. Paul Reed Smith famously said that these would have been the perfect pickups back in 1985 because they're hot enough to give you all of the punchy high-gain tones you'd ever need, but they clean up beautifully too. Crystal-clear and articulate — without any top-end harshness!

High-Quality Hardware

Although this particular model may be a part of the affordable SE line, PRS spared no expense when it came to the instrument's hardware appointments. The PRS Patented Molded Tremolo keeps things solid, with its beautifully-machined design offering a comfy feel and a smooth vibrato arm action. At the other end of the guitar you’ll find a set of PRS-designed machine heads that'll keep your tuning super-stable too.

This PRS 24 SE guitar is brilliant and great value - just as online content and reviews show. It arrives well set up and intonated (with a tiny intonation adjustment on the B string). This was a first PRS after playing Fenders for over fifty years and it is hard to put it down! The narrow-to-wider neck takes a little getting used to. The veneered finish is immaculate, the range of tone is great, tuning and trem is stable, the frets are mirror with rolled edges, the pickups are crystal. As with any incoming guitar, I polished the frets anyway with ultra fine wire wool and lemon-oiled the fretboard when fitting new 9's. It is an excellent guitar!

It's a real quality guitar but I was expecting a wider neck but it's the same as my fenders but with the frets closer together. This makes it so very different for me but I do like this guitar and I will keep it

OK, so I've only been playing electric guitar for a couple of years. Bought a Squire Strat to get started and this PRS is a birthday treat to myself. I love it. Feels nicely setup, and easy to play. Strings are a bit tenser than my strat (I guess because of the longer scale length?), but the sound is such a massive improvement, with a wide range of tones. I also love the limited controls - one tone, one volume, 3-position pick-up switch and single coil-split is plenty for me. I went to Anderton's expecting to buy the "Faded Blue Burst" finish. I'm so glad I was able to go in and see it against the "Black Gold Burst" which happened to be on display as I much preferred the latter - and it was £100 cheaper at the time :^)

I’ve owned a few guitars over the years, Gibson, Epiphone, Hamer and a PRS 245. This guitar though is my new favourite. It plays so easily and sounds so good. Anything from disco pop to death metal. I’ve swapped out pickups before but I do t see the need on this. Great guitar, great price
