PRS' prestigious Private Stock division produces some of the world's finest guitars. While custom one-offs form most of their output, the Private Stock team will occasionally build small batches of special run instruments for selected dealers. Their latest creation, the "Paul's 85", is one such example. Limited to just 85 pieces, this meticulously-crafted model represents the pinnacle of electric guitar design in the eyes of PRS' founder - Paul Reed Smith.

The Ultimate "Paul's Guitar"

The PRS Private Stock Paul's 85 guitar is made to Smith's exacting specs. The idea for the instrument came about when a selection of wide-curl Maple tops made their way into the legendary Private Stock 'Wood Vault'. Paul Reed Smith knew they should be saved for something special, with the Paul’s 85 being the result.

This gorgeous work-of-art is based on the existing "Paul's Guitar" model, but has that extra layer of finesse and precision that only the Private Stock luthiers can provide. Paul picked the tops, the selection of woods, assisted on the neck shapes of every guitar, spec’d the pickups, and played and adjusted each completed example until it was just “right". The team executed every detail, while Paul looked after each instrument on a daily basis.

Paul's chosen specifications also include a dark Peruvian Mahogany neck, Honduran Rosewood fingerboard and headstock veneer, solid red abalone birds with mother of pearl outlines, a bone nut, vintage-style tuning pegs, and an aluminium stoptail bridge with brass inserts and studs. This blend of premium tonewoods and hardware forms an instrument that is simply incredible to behold, and will always inspire you with its divine aesthetics, sublime sound and unmatched playability.

Flexible TCI Pickups & Electronics

The PRS Paul's 85 features proprietary TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) Treble and Bass pickups with two mini-toggle switches that allow you to put either or both pickups in humbucking or true single-coil modes. The clarity and highly-musical tones of these vintage-inspired pickups are both big and nuanced, giving the Paul's 85 a spellbinding voice!
