Product Description

In the late '70s, Leo Fender was looking forward to launch his new 'G&L' brand that would feature his latest innovations — including the 'Magnetic Field Design' pickup and 'Saddle-Lock' bridge, which are now staple appointments on most G&L instruments. Leo originally developed these technologies at his CLF Research company, and production of the new G&L instruments took place in the CLF factory on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — where G&L production continues today!

The CLF Research L-1000 brings back the best of the iconic passive G&L bass from 1980, with classic details including the early CLF/G&L headstock and neck profile, beautifully-reproduced CLF knobs, and the distinctive curved chrome control plate. Now take all that goodness and pack it into the slimmer mid-'90s L Series body shape for added comfort and lower weight, combined with a modern dual-action truss rod and twin graphite stiffening rods. Add it all up, and you’ve got the best of the vintage CLF vibe, with the best of modern G&L elements!

Key Features

  • Swamp Ash Body — Serves as a superbly-balanced tonal foundation for the versatile pickup selection.
  • Slim "C" Maple Neck — Lean neck shape offers modern playability; complete with a time-honoured vintage gloss finish.
  • Bolt-On Construction — Produces a snappy note response for an immediate playing experience.
  • G&L MFD Humbucker — Emits a thick sound with plenty of punch! Utilising ceramic bar magnets, G&L's distinctive MFD design transfers the magnetic field to the top of the pickup; ensuring a warmer and more dynamic sound with a wider frequency response.
  • 3-Position Mini Toggle Mode Switch — Allows you to choose between parallel, split and 'OMG' pickup modes; giving you a range of different timbres from just the single humbucker.
  • G&L 'Saddle-Lock' Bridge — Features a small Allen screw on the side of the unit, which presses all of the string saddles together so that they resonate as though they were one single mass; resulting in increased sustain.

Reviews

"In a group context, playing at full bore, the G&L L-1000 supported the nine-piece band with a thick layer of low-end that articulated clean and punchy. I heard every note with greater nuance and clarity — and it reminded me that indeed, things have improved a bit since 1951. In the course of the two-week run, I used the L-1000 on 11 shows, two radio spots, and an appearance on the CBS This Morning: Saturday show. In each setting, the bass gave me what I needed, with the extra benefit of hearing myself more clearly." — Ed Friedland, Bass Magazine
