Product Description

This is probably the most interesting guitar in the Fender Custom shop lineup right now. Neither Strat or Tele the Mischief Maker brings both sets of tones to a guitar that is packed with quality hardware for one of the most versatile guitars Fender have ever made.

Strat or Tele

Looking at this guitar you may instantly be a little taken back with the Stratocaster body attached to a Telecaster neck. So it is Strat tones with Telecaster feel right? Not quite. Even though it looks like just a neck swap they have actually gone deep in to the electronics and made something that is far more than the sum of its parts.

Interesting Build

The Strat style body is made out of Lightweight Alder so you can play it all night long with no back pain whatsoever. The neck has been built from a single piece of Birdseye Maple and carved in to the classic early 50's Large 'V' style neck by with a slightly more 60's 9.5" radius on the fingerboard. Even with that larger neck it is still very playable for most styles.

Unique Pickup Configuration

So this where the Mischief Maker gets really interesting. Instead of just giving us a single set of pickups and calling it there, they have actually individually picked single pickups to get the best possible sound. So in the neck position you have Custom Shop Handwound 1969 Strat pickup with a 1965 Reverse Wound, Reverse Polarity Strat in the middle and a Handwound Texas Special in the bridge.

If you like to run your strat hot and dirty in to your rig then you will adore the pickups on this guitar. They are all slightly hotter than what you usually see come out of the custom shop and with things like the greasebucket tone control you don't lose any of that head when using the tone controls.

Here's what Fender say about the Mischief Maker

Musical mischief abounds from a spirited Custom Shop creation that delivers all the sounds of a Stratocaster and a Telecaster. The 2016 Limited Edition Heavy Relic Mischief Maker is much more than a battered Stratocaster with a Telecaster neck-its modern wiring includes a Blender neck pickup control that delivers a full and truly variable range of Stratocaster and Telecaster tones. Its trio of pickups includes a hand wound 1969 neck pickup, reverse-hand wound/reverse-polarity '65 middle pickup and hand wound Texas Special bridge pickup, with even more tonal versatility from the Greasebucket tone circuit (which rolls off highs without reducing gain), master volume control and five-way switch.

Other premium features include a Heavy Relic lacquer finish on a lightweight alder body, one-piece tinted maple birdseye neck with 10/'56 "V"-shaped profile and 9.5" fingerboard radius, jumbo frets and bone nut, single-ply eggshell pickguard and vintage hardware. Includes Custom Shop Limited neck plate, case and certificate of authenticity. Available in Daphne Blue over Three-Color Sunburst, Olympic White over Three-Color Sunburst and Black over Three-Color Sunburst.

Great guitar (as advertised), well packaged and great communication - as always!

What can I say? Awesome. I didn't expect to buy this but it was love at first play even before I plugged into an amp. It was so "live". Pickup choice & sound are just excellent. Neck won't suit all as it's a vintage thickness but not a baseball bat. I absolutely love this guitar.
