Product Description

Welcome to ESP's first ever 9-string guitar, in collaboration with Kawaii metal band Babymetal. Their unique blend of J-pop vocals and prog metal instrumentation is a refreshingly catchy concoction - garnering plenty of praise for its musicality, as well as the obvious wow factor.

The Japanese-made MF-9 E-II monster was used on the album Metal Galaxy and is appropriately finished in a custom album artwork graphic. Don't be fooled, this isn't just for spectacle. It's kitted out with all the latest hardware and construction details to make traversing nine strings as easy as possible.

Construction

There's no getting round it - a nine-string guitar is on the heavy side. That's why the MF-9 is made of a lightweight alder wood and three-piece maple neck, designed to reduce weight where possible. You'd be mistaken in thinking the fingerboard is made of ebony; in fact it's made of a lighter pau ferro, dyed to give it a subtle black-to-brown hue. The bolt-on construction has an extreme taper to allow for better movement up to higher frets, all while cutting down on excess wood.

Sound

Babymetal rarely use clean tones. Fitted with a single bridge position EMG 909 active humbucker, the MF-9 does one thing exceptionally well: crushing heavy metal. Even so, Babymetal quickly jump from one sub-genre to another. One minute they're digging in hard for sharp, proggy palm mutes. The next, they're playing chunky folk metal power chords. The EMG 909 is the perfect foundation to colour your sound using other methods. Their active design makes them crisp, clear and direct.

Hardware

ESP don't cut corners when it comes to hardware. Yet another great addition to the MF-9 are Luminlay dot inlays, which give off a green glow in the dark - you'll want them on all your guitars after you use them. The MF-9 is equipped with a super sturdy Hipshot low-profile bridge and Gotoh locking tuners to handle all nine string with ease. String buzz is kept to a minimum thanks to the Graph Tech Black Tusq XL nut.

You also get an exclusive Babymetal hardcase and certificate of authenticity for your spectacular new guitar.
