The 14" x 6.5" Big Softy snare drum is one of the latest percussion innovations to have been produced by the British Drum Co. With up to twelve months planning and testing going into its development, alongside a cold-press moulding construction process (which ensures the natural sonic qualities of each wood reaches its optimum potential) - the end result is a handcrafted snare that stays true to its name.
Softy Softly
This snare projects a soft, contemporary overall sound, but its still more than capable of making thick, fat and powerful tones with harder strikes. Characterised by a richness that you won’t find elsewhere, its no wonder that the brand has described it as the warmest snare in their entire catalogue. It’s this versatile sound that makes it suitable for both sessions in the studio as well as high octane performances on stage.
Hand-Selected Woods
Each piece of wood used in this snare’s construction was selected because of how well it enhances the drums sound. Cherry inner and outer veneers have been combined with a central base of ochroma, which has been kiln-dried. This lightweight hardwood is characterised by its micro-pore grains which work to filter out any higher frequencies. The end result is a snare that features increased tonal variation and dynamics which really help to deliver both a premium audio and playing experience. You can then craft your sound further by increasing the batter head tension for an even bigger sound and more responsive feel. The Big Softy is designed to be pushed further and harder in this regard, allowing you to achieve your preferred sound without having to detune.
