Product Description

Here's what Behringer says about the Powerplay P16-M Personal Mixer:

Get perfect monitor mixes, every time

The Behringer Powerplay 16 P16-M is the stereo personal monitor mixer component of the Behringer Powerplay Distribution System – and your key to better performances. It’s simple: if you – the performer – are hearing what you need to hear in your monitor, you’ll play (or sing) better. And if the performers are handling their own monitor mixes, the sound engineer is free to concentrate on getting a great front-of-house mix. It’s a win-win!

Digital convenience and audio quality

The Behringer P16-M personal monitor mixer connects to your Powerplay Distribution System with simple ethernet cables, making it easy to get up and running. You can run the Cat 5e cables long distances without negatively affecting your audio. This gives you neat setups that are quick and easy to set up and tear down.

Ideal for permanent installation

Whether you run a studio, manage a performance theater, or run sound at your church, you’ll love how easy it is to integrate the Behringer P16-M into your installation. Its compact size saves space, and its Cat 5e connectivity allows you to run long cables and daisy-chain up to 48 of them without degrading your audio quality.

A cost effective solution for my studio. I run two ADAT cables from two of my Apollo’s to a PM16i, giving me up to the 16 channels of audio. In my DAW (Luna) I route a duplicate output of my monitor mix, busses and relevant tracks, click and talkback to the PM16i via ADAT. (You can use TRS cables but I use my audio outs for other purposes) From the PM16i (warning this can cause latency). To avoid latency I mirror the cue outputs to ADAT but in my set up that is a maximum of 8 channels but it works. I use 1 Ethernet cable to the first PM16m and daisy chain to 4 others. This allows musicians to create their own personal mix and set their own overall volume. This saves a lot of time setting up, and constantly adjusting cue mixes from the control room. With ADAT on the input and POE for the output there are less cables and no need for power supplies. The sound is good enough for monitoring. The units feel solid enough. I don’t care about the aesthetics, just function and durability (for durability only time will tell). The only reason for knocking a star off is the stand mounting solution is relatively expensive. Why not add a ferrule to attach directly to a mic stand?

Never been 100% convinced about Behringer gear. Only bought this specific unit because our sound guy has one of the higher spec Behringer mixers and this is the only personal/IEM mixer that's compatible. Would have preferred the Allen & Heath unit, but little point if it won't worth with the desk. But then, other guys in the band have these P16s and seem very pleased with them. It's still early days and I'm happy to be proved wrong. Seems reasonably well put together if not the most attractive product of this type, but the PSU leaves a little to be desired. Probably works well enough but the cable looks very cheap and low quality and its hard to see how this will stand up to regular stage use. It wouldn't have taken much for Behringer to provide something more robust, for example, the cable on the Boss PSA adaptor is clearly built to last. And a carry pouch to protect the unit itself when in transit would have been a nice touch.
