Product Description

Alvarez’s acoustic range is notoriously diverse, and features a raft of stunning guitars that emit the most glorious of tones. The Masterworks MPA66SHB is one such model, an elegant Parlour-style instrument with a unique look and a luxurious sound.

Construction

The Alvarez MPA66SHB is constructed predominantly from Solid African Mahogany, with its entire body crafted from this exotic tonewood. Offering a supremely warm and rich mid-range, this material also accentuates the lows to ensure that the full dynamic range of the instrument is heard.

The MPA66SHB also features Alvarez’s thoughtful FST2 bracing, which is essentially a forward-shifted X brace design. With the axis of the X closer to the sound hole, this design forms a larger soundboard area that can harness more vibrations from the strings. This allows the guitar to resonate more naturally, giving it additional volume despite its small body size.

The Masterworks Range

Alvarez’s tagline for their Masterworks range is ‘Truly Eloquent Professional Guitars’. Just shy of their hand-crafted Yairi range, the Masterworks offerings are the cream of the crop. As with the rest of their diverse range, Alvarez are committed to offering stunning aesthetics, familiar playability and classy acoustic tones.

The Masterworks guitars are defined by their all-solid tonewood construction, meticulous attention to detail and designs inspired by the most popular acoustics of all-time. If you’re looking for uncompromising quality, look no further than the Alvarez Masterworks acoustics!

About Alvarez

Established in 1965 by major US instrument distributor St. Louis Music, Alvarez teamed up with master luthier Kazuo Yairi with the aim of producing the finest guitars in the world.

The success of Alvarez-Yairi guitars helped put the brand on the market, and are still handmade in Kani, Japan to this day. In the decades that followed, Alvarez significantly expanded their operation, and now produce one of the most extensive and diverse ranges of acoustic instruments in the world.

Ranging from affordable entry-level to world-class handmade instruments, Alvarez have got everything covered. Their instruments have been used by the likes of Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Ani DiFranco and many more – they’re obviously doing something right!

Very nice guitar which I chose for its sound and playability. The tuning pegs are the weakpoint of this instrument and I am sure I will have to replace them, but that said I haven't had to tune it since using them. If I hadn't noticed the poor, rather flimsy tuning pegs I would have given this 5 stars.

Much louder and good tonal range for a small well-priced guitar. It looks flashier than I would like but that is just preference. There were no blemishes or issues with the guitar, it is well finished and plays great. My only issue is with the tuners, they feel a bit unresponsive and don't have a quality feel when you are tuning but they seem to work OK.

Finish is excellent, nearly flawless, only one very little imperfection on the abalone binding. The tuners do not match the quality of the rest of the guitar.

Pros: Absolutely blown away by the sound of this guitar and the feel of the neck. Not to mention the look. I totally recommend anyone to buy this item. Cons: The tuners are below par but hold tune perfectly and look nice from a distance. I'm going to replace them with the Gotoh tuners used on the yairi parlor. Very minor below flaws in finish that need close inspection to find. Summary, buy buy buy, enjoy
