Alvarez’s acoustic range is notoriously diverse, and features a raft of stunning guitars that emit the most glorious of tones. The Artist AJ80CE is one such model, with its large jumbo shape delivering a full-bodied voice with plenty of projection.
The Alvarez AJ80CE is constructed predominantly from Maple, with its body and neck crafted from this popular tonewood. Offering a bright and vibrant top-end, this material also accentuates the mid-range to ensure that the instrument cuts through wonderfully when playing with accompaniment.
Adorned with a Solid A+ Sitka Spruce top too, this enhances the crispy highs even more. Providing you with plenty of presence, you can play fingerpicked patterns with all of the clarity and articulation you’d expect from a high-quality acoustic guitar.
The AJ80CE features Alvarez’s thoughtful FST2 bracing, which is essentially a forward-shifted X brace design. With the axis of the X closer to the sound hole, this design forms a larger soundboard area that can harness more vibrations from the strings. This allows the guitar to resonate more naturally, giving it more volume and an airier sound.
Fitted with an LR Baggs StagePro Element system, the Alvarez AJ80CE will offer an authentic acoustic tonality when plugged into a PA System or recording interface. Class-leaders in acoustic pickup technology, LR Baggs’ StagePro system will translate the acoustic voice of the AJ80CE very convincingly, capturing its full range.
Sporting a 3-band EQ section as well as a phase inversion switch, you can tailor the tone of this instrument to suit the acoustic qualities of any space. For example, if you’re playing in a particularly dark-sounding venue, just boost the treble and you’ll cut through effortlessly!
The Jumbo Design
Along with Dreadnought, Parlour and OM shapes, the Jumbo acoustic guitar is one of the most popular designs on the market. The largest member of the acoustic family, Jumbo acoustics are known for their weighty bass response and pronounced curves.
Combining modern manufacturing techniques with unique tonewood treatments, Alvarez Jumbo acoustics are exactly as you might expect; big in their looks, bigger in their sound. A wider lower bout and a relatively slim middle results in an alluring set of curves, with the body often going a little deeper than other models. This delivers a sound that’s loud, warm and perfectly suited to hard-hitters.
Established in 1965 by major US instrument distributor St. Louis Music, Alvarez teamed up with master luthier Kazuo Yairi with the aim of producing the finest guitars in the world.
The success of Alvarez-Yairi guitars helped put the brand on the market, and are still handmade in Kani, Japan to this day. In the decades that followed, Alvarez significantly expanded their operation, and now produce one of the most extensive and diverse ranges of acoustic instruments in the world.
Ranging from affordable entry-level to world-class handmade instruments, Alvarez have got everything covered. Their instruments have been used by the likes of Johnny Cash, Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Ani DiFranco and many more – they’re obviously doing something right!
