Ableton Push 2 Performance Controller

At last, Ableton have produced an update to their highly regarded PUSH controller. Push is the ultimate controller for Ableton live, working seamlessly together to create a powerhouse of creativity.

The New Push 2 offers a raft of new features that improve work flow and creativity. It feels like more than just a controller. Despite having no sound of it's own, when combined with Ableton Live, Push 2 is a full instrument that you can play expressively as well as create full tracks with.

A Gorgeous Instrument

Push 2 has been designed to provide a beautiful and engaging creative experience, with a really intuitive interface. The Push 2 has been upgraded with full RGB pads that offer more detailed visual feedback to help you navigate your session. They feel softer, smoother and more responsive, allowing you to make beats and melodies more musical than before.

The Push 2 also now has a clear multicolour display that adapts to show you exactly what you need to select the perfect parameters without distraction.  Whether you're choosing filter types, gain level or you're slicing up a waveform, the great looking display allows you to edit quickly and effectively.

Create Beats

The Push is the perfect controller to create beats with Live. Browse, preview and load sounds onto the 64 velocity sensitive pads so that you can play beats live; or switch to a 16-pad step sequencer that allows you to programme in something simple very quickly, or go absolutely crazy with an intricate groove. You can also tweak your groove with timing, velocity and a whole host of other parameters to create a beat that's individual and unique.

Play Notes and Chords

The push's 64 responsive pads can also be transformed into a variety of musical keyboard layouts that allow you to play melodies, bass lines and a variety of chords. You don't even need to be any good at piano- you can set the pads to work as a chromatic scale if you want the full piano style control, or set the pads to a chosen key and scale with a touch of a button and it'll be impossible to play a bum note.

If you have a jazz track and want to play only within a blues scale, set the scale and the key you're in and you can improvise with ease. You can even play in different modes (ionian, dorian etc) and use Push's touch slider for pitch bend and modulation. Who needs a keyboard anyway!

If you prefer to sequence your melodies and chords as well as your beats, the push can enter notes, make precise timing changes, create variations or adjust note length and velocity within the grid format. You can even step sequence automation; record a filter value for each step and create amazing depth to your tracks.

Edit Your Samples

With the new detailed colour display on the Push 2, you can now more easily work with your samples right on the unit. Push 2 has three separate workflows that offer fast and flexible ways to get creative!

Slicing Mode- Instantly chop up long samples and distribute the different slices onto the pads.

Classic Mode- Turn melodic samples into playable pitched instruments. its fully adjustable to get the perfect sampled sound.

One Shot Mode- samples play the whole way through without being cut short. Perfect for playing drum samples.

Record automation into clips. Edit automation with curves. Session View automation lets you capture your performance or add movement to your loops. Use curves to make automation more musical. Live's unique Session View makes it easy to improvise with musical ideas. In Live 9, you can now record parameter changes directly into Session View for even more flexibility. Edit automation curves with the mouse to create smooth mix transitions or radical parameter changes in your clips. In one click, create new Session View scenes from your Arrangement tracks, or drag and copy individual clips from Arrangement to Session. The automation comes with them, making it easier than ever to move from improvising to arranging and back.

See the full list of Packs included with Live 9 Browse the Pack store at ableton.com to find even more amazing sounds - signature drum kits by Daniel Miller, Soniccouture, Flatpack and Puremagnetik, new tempo-synched loop collections and high-end multisampled instruments specifically designed for Ableton Live. Get your sound right. The new analog-modeled Glue Compressor and redesigned studio effects help you get a better sound in less time. Live's new Glue Compressor, developed in collaboration with Cytomic, is modeled on a classic 80s console bus compressor, both for its great sound and also to provide musical results with a simple set of controls. Live's studio effects - Compressor, Gate and EQ Eight - have been improved with new displays, enhanced controls and better sound, making it easier to see and hear your changes.

The Glue Compressor is an analog-modeled compressor based on the bus compressor from a classic console from the 80s. EQ Eight now has a breakout display, an Audition mode for soloing frequencies, an analog-style adaptive Q option, and improved filters. Compressor's new display makes it clear what's happening. And improved sound means better results with less effort. Gate - a new display and enhanced controls make it easier to dial in the right sound.

Reclaim the music in your samples.... Live 9's new tools for converting audio to MIDI give you unprecedented flexibility to extract musical ideas from your samples and build upon them. Convert your favorite drum break with the Drums-to-MIDI feature and reuse it with your own sounds. Speed up your remixing work by using Harmony-to-MIDI to get the notes and chords from the original audio stems. Or simply seed your creativity with inspiring, natural-feeling MIDI grabbed directly from the most exciting parts of your music collection.

...or sing the music in your head. Sketch out ideas quickly by singing (or beatboxing) into Live and converting your recording to MIDI. Your voice is the new keyboard: sing, beatbox, tap a rhythm on your desk, or play any solo instrument to capture your musical ideas as they come. Then use the Melody- or Drums-to-MIDI feature to turn your recordings into MIDI clips that you can edit and reuse with any sound.

  • Capture guitar chords and use them with a synth
  • Beatbox your drum loop
  • Record any instrument to create melodies

Powerful MIDI note manipulation tools and an improved editing workflow help you create new musical ideas fast:

  • Transform MIDI notes: New controls in the MIDI editor let you quickly invert, reverse, transpose and speed up or slow down selected MIDI notes in a single click.
  • Move notes on and off the grid: Beats are easier to see when editing, and editing grids are now "sticky," allowing notes to be freely moved and resized while still snapping when close to grid lines.
  • Stretch MIDI notes: MIDI Note Stretch markers let you speed up, slow down - or even reverse - selected MIDI notes.
  • Warp clip automation: Audio clip automation is warped alongside the audio itself. Envelopes in MIDI clips can be stretched using MIDI stretch markers.
  • Edit automation more easily: Add or remove breakpoints with a single click. Hover the mouse near envelope segments to select and drag them without using a modifier.
  • Add curves to automation: Hold a modifier while dragging to create and edit curves in automation envelopes.
