Boss 40th Anniversary Compact Pedals And New Releases!
2017 has been a busy year for guitar pedal giants BOSS, and they've celebrated their 40th anniversary with new releases and an incredible exhibition in London!
Boss Compact Pedals
In 1977, BOSS launched the iconic compact series with the OD-1 Overdrive, PH-1 Phaser, and SP-1 Spectrum pedals. In the 40 years since that introduction, the colourful line has been adopted by generations of musicians, with 119 unique pedal models produced to date and well over =strong>15 million units sold.
Their pedals are used by players of all levels, from famous touring pros to bedroom hobbyists. In fact, it’s hard to find an experienced guitarist who hasn’t used one or more BOSS pedals at some point throughout their playing career. With them celebrating their 40th anniversary this year they have certainly been a busy bunch and have already released some incredible limited edition pedals as well as new additions to the lineup like the Angry Driver distortion pedal – in collaboration with JHS Pedals.
The Boss JB-2 Angry Driver is the first collaboration pedal that Boss have ever done! They’ve teamed up with JHS pedals to combine two of their best pedals respectively into one sublime little unit. The JB-2 Angry Driver combines the JHS Angry Charlie from JHS and the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver.
With various ways of stacking the drives or running them individually, the Angry Driver is definitely going to be popping up on boards all around the world.
This special, limited-edition commemorative boxset combines the three original Boss pedals into one package with exact replicas of the original pedals.
These pedals have become known as the Traffic Light series and include the PH-1 Phaser, the OD-1 Overdrive and the unicorn-rare SP-1 Spectrum pedal. These re-issues are manufactured in Japan with the original wiring and circuit adjustments made by hand. The 40th Anniversary Boxset will only be available through 2017.
The DS-1 Distortion was introduced in 1978 as part of the second wave of compact pedal releases. Its hard-edged attack and smooth sustain was an instant success among guitarists, going on to fuel the signature sounds of numerous rock legends. The DS-1 has enjoyed such enduring popularity that’s it’s remained in the lineup to this day, outselling every other BOSS pedal to date.
To commemorate 40 years of BOSS pedal innovation, we’ve released a special version of the DS-1 that features a black body with gold lettering, gold-capped knobs, and a vintage silver thumbscrew for the battery compartment. The pedal comes in a special box with the BOSS 40th anniversary logo, and will be available in 2017 only.
Boss Cause & Effects Event at the House Of Vans
Boss have hosted an incredible event at the House Of Vans in London to commemorate their 40th anniversary. In essence, it’s an exhibition showing off all of their pedals – and pretty much all the gear they’ve had a hand in – for the past 40 years.
At the event, they had a version of all the gear they’ ve made in that time including some super-rare pieces like the Space Echo and original GR systems which just scream 80s! Bands have been playing at the event including Dorje, KT Tunstall and the incredible Zane Carney as well as masterclasses from Rabea Massaad and our friends at That Pedal Show.
