Product Description

The Sire M2 is an instrument that was designed solely for the most modern of bassists. Although more affordable than its bigger brother, the M7, the M2 still features a powerful set of humbuckers that offer huge tones.

The M2 Version 2 is fundamentally the same as the original model. However, it now features rolled fingerboard edges to provide extra playing comfort, giving it the feel of a high-end bass!

Construction

The body of the M2 is formed from Mahogany, meaning that you can expect a rich and deep low end-tone. Also projecting a vibrant mid-range, this tonewood serves as a great foundation for the punchy-sounding pickups.

Paired with a bolt-on Canadian Hard Maple neck, this type of construction and material adds some crucial snap. Giving notes plenty of top-end bite, you can be sure to cut through any mix!

Electronics & Hardware

The Sire M2 Version 2 features a pair of potent-sounding humbuckers, delivering a thick tone with lots of grunt. If you like to play heavier styles where an overdriven bass sound is required, these humbuckers will dish plenty of dirt!

Featuring the Marcus Heritage-3 preamp, the amount of flexibility that the M2 Version 2 offers is unparalleled at its price-point. With a volume/tone dual pot, the M2 boasts a full 3-band EQ, letting you manipulate the bass, middle and treble frequencies. This means that you can tailor your tones completely on-the-fly.

The Marcus Standard Bridge provides a comfortable and solid feel, with its traditional design letting you make action or intonation adjustments easily. At the other end of the instrument you’ll find a set of Marcus Die-Cast tuners, ensuring optimal tuning stability.

Great bass, good sound and a decent preamp, however it was broken. This would have gotten 5 stars from me if it hadn't, the wire connecting the amplified signal within the bass to the output broke in almost 3 weeks, not particularly impressed as passive mode also had issues because of the preamp as well, tone is great for an instrument of this value, and the new one works great (Thank you so much to Andertons for the incredibly understanding and helpful staff who were able to process a refund) so I hope it was just a single faulty product and not a norm. The colour is amazing as is the rolled fretboard edges, but the preamp issue still taints the experience for me.

The neck has the same quality fret work as more expensive "plecked" basses that I've owned in the past. Quality construction and nice modern tone. A hidden gem in the M range of Sire basses. Havent a clue how they do it for the price. Would highly recommend this bass!

I was initially looking at the Ibanez SR300E in red, but thought it looked a bit conventional, and I noticed the Sire bass in the listings, which immediately got my attention, and I was torn between the two. Then what do I find but an Anderton's video on Youtube comparing these two exact models! While I do like the Ibanez red, the features of the Sire won out - the transparent finish, the rounded edges on the fingerboard, the huge range of tones available from the pickups and EQ, and that I happen to share a name in common with the endorser! Now I've got it, I'm very happy with it; it looks & sounds great, is nicely balanced, the neck and fingerboard are nice (the rounding isn't quite as pronounced or as smooth as I expected, but it's better than none), the EQ is indeed very flexible. I needed to adjust truss rod, action and intonation, but only by a very small amount. A couple of minor things: it's really more green than blue! The battery box cover on the back is screwed on, it doesn't have the pop-open holders the pictures on the site showed. You need to remove the screws from the truss-rod cover to take off the protective plastic film on it, same goes for the rear covers. The fret markers on the fingerboard are almost invisible (white on maple), but the side markers are fine. Though its easy to find online and covered in videos, it didn't come with a manual or chart of which knobs do what.
