4-Voice Fatness

Yep, this is still the same gloriously warm Model D sound – but you get 4 voices instead of just 1. This timeless sound has been favoured by countless artists over the years, including Chick Corea, Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson to name a few.

Behringer have painstakingly created the Model D’s legendary tone, using a quadruple VCO design with reproduced original transistors and JFETs and that 24dB ladder filter. By adding extra voices, this is no longer a bass/lead synth – it’s a fully-fledged analog workstation. Killer!

Added Effects & Sequencing Tools

It’s clear that Behringer know what the people want – who wouldn’t want a 4-voice Model D? But they’ve taken it a step further and equipped the Poly D with effects and intuitive sequencing tools. This unit pays homage to classic synth sounds in its own crazy way.

With distortion modelled on the DS-1 and stereo chorus modelled on the Juno 60. This immediately takes the velvety Model D tones into uncharted territory; add your desired amount of crunch and broaden your leads, basslines and chords with luscious warmth. All things considered, this is a polysynth that combines the best of a bunch of things – get excited.

Despite what musos will tell you, analogue synths are just signal generators. This is tech that has been available for generations. They can all emulate each other with the same filters and oscillators. So, for me the value is in how you get to that sound and this Plot D has decent quality hardware and a really nicely made case of metal and wood. It's like a technical piece of furniture. If I would criticise anything it's that the keyboard is a little lighter than the MiniMoog or even the Maplin 3600 I have played (which the Poly D compares with) however that doesn't mean it's bad. It works perfectly. I'm happy.

The Poly D is an excellent synth and emulates the Minimoog exceptionally well

What a lovely little beasty the Poly D is. A great phat sound and the Roland Juno style chorus adds a very nice touch. The distortion section is a little muddy and lacks a bit of grit, but with a bit of careful tweaking it can be used to add bite. The only downside to the synth is the outputs are a little low and there is no control on the synth to boost this.

I wish I had thousands of pounds for a “real” moog model d, but I don’t. When I saw the behringer poly d on sale for £449 I decided to go for it. I love playing it! I use it through the inputs of my Korg SV2S (again, sadly I don’t earn enough money for the new Rhodes Mk8!) and can now recreate all of the amazing sounds I’ve heard on countless records. I will admit that I don’t use the paraphonic mode, I keep it monophonic - yet having an extra 4th oscillator means it is possible to create very interesting “chords” whilst soloing by tuning them in 3rds or 4ths etc. The arpeggiator, Juno style chorus & sequencer nice additions too. Good service from Anderton’s too, so I’m very happy!

Paraphony is a bit clunky, to say the least, but as a 4 oscillator Minimoog, it’s an awesome beast.

A great blast from the past! Always wanted the Moog version but at £5k+ it was never going to be. Behringer have produced an accurate clone with lots of added functions and the sound is an analogue masterpiece. Comes with all the expected glitches of the original - including oscillator drift. Highly recommended for those deep bases and unique Moog sounds.

Unbelievable value for money, sounds awesome. If you are considering buying one just do it.

The product is a real bargain, a 'MiniMoog' for under £540. Not 5 stars, because the keys occasionally do not always rise back up to the unpressed level. Exactly the same happens on my Behringer Odyssey. For the price, I can live wih that.
