Product Description

The HD 12-A mk4 active speaker provides a rich low-end with a deep punch, as well as a clear mid-range and crisp top-end. This makes it ideal for a number of applications, from live sound, playback, stage monitoring or installations.

The integration of FiRPHASE technology ensures that a highly transparent sound with amazing clarity is delivered. This is an advanced filter, and the FiRPHASE algorithm enhances dynamics, amplitude and phase patterns, making sure that there is minimal latency.

Pure Class D Power:

The HD 12-A mk4 provides you with incredible audio quality, thanks to its high-quality materials and a Class D amplifier. This offers a bold sound that can fill large venues, with a quick attack and balanced response.

A strong aluminium structure for the amplifier ensures great stability and protection, meaning that the speaker will run reliably with less risk of overheating as it dissipates any high temperatures.

Solid Construction:

The HD 12-A mk4 enclosure is moulded on a polypropylene composite material, forming a solid and wear-proof casing. This not only means that the speaker can survive gig after gig, but it also dampens vibrations to provide cleaner audio delivery.

Featuring 3 handles (top and side-mounted), transporting the HD 12-A mk4 is made easy, and its light weight lessens the risk of injury when carried. A robust steel pole mount underneath the speaker means you can position the speaker in a standard configuration or as a stage monitor, run it however you prefer!

At the bottom a rugged steel pole mount has been installed in all models.
The new cabinet shape will allow every D-LINE model to be used in the standard configuration as well as in stage monitor model. Two M10 and 3 M6 threaded inserts are provided for optional mounting hardware in Installed Sound Applications.

POWERFUL CLASS D AMPLIFIERS
RCF's Class-D power amplifier technology packs huge performance operating with high efficiency into a lightweight solution. D-Line amplifiers deliver ultra-fast attack, realistic transient response and impressive audio performance. The amplifier features a solid mechanical aluminium structure which not only stabilises the amplifier during transportation but also helps the fan-less heat dissipation. All the D-LINE amplifiers present SMPS power supply section in order to produce maximum output and minimum transportation weight.

A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON LINEARITY
RCF speakers are designed by using FiRPHASE, a proprietary and advanced FIR filtering technology, conceived for delivering transparent sound, absolute clarity and perfect stereo images to the listener. The FiRPHASE algorithm optimizes dynamics, amplitude and phase patterns, ensuring at the same time minimum system latency.

IN/OUT CONNECTORS
The amplifier presents both XLR In/Out connectors and a Jack input for the maximum connection versatility.

SWITCHABLE EQ MODE
A switchable EQ Mode makes it easier to select among two different equalisation presets:
- Extended response switch that slightly emphasizes the bass response for playback music and low volume applications;
- Linear response switch, when the speaker is used to amplify a live mix. The amplifier has a built in limiter circuit to prevent clipping or overdriving the transducers.

MIC/LINE SWITCH
A useful Mic/Line switch helps adjusting the input sensitivity. When used for speech, the [Mic] setting allows to use a microphone directly with the speaker. Set the selector to [Line] when using the speaker for live music or playback.

VOLUME KNOB
An easy to reach volume knob on the back allows to set the overall volume of the speaker according to its application.

STATUS LEDS
3 status LEDs – Power / Signal / Status are provided for monitoring the system.

SUPERIOR DRIVERS
At the core of HD 12-A there are the best quality components, starting from the powerful with 1” voice coil and 1.5”diaphragm compression driver. This allows better coverage, dispersion control and incredible efficiency.
The 12” woofer offers an extremely linear response and a precise, deep low frequency control. All the compression drivers and transducers are precision built, taking advantage of RCF’s superior knowledge and experience dedicated to achieving extremely high standards.

FIRPHASE
RCF speakers are designed by using FiRPHASE, a proprietary and advanced FIR filtering technology, conceived for delivering transparent sound, absolute clarity and perfect stereo images to the listener. The FiRPHASE algorithm optimizes dynamics, amplitude and phase patterns, ensuring at the same time minimum system latency.

PHASE MATTERS
The design of the FIR filter for this specific purpose should start from an accurate measurement of the loudspeaker phase. The FiRPHASE algorithm uses this measurement and adapts the loudspeaker’s phase without touching the amplitude equalization. The heart of the advanced technique used by FiRPHASE is a recursive method (Least Squared method) combined with a proprietary algorithm that calculates the best FIR filter coefficients set in according to amplitude and phase constraints. The algorithm corrects phase and amplitude (when necessary) by taking into account the weak points of the transducers and the resonances or cancellations due to the cabinet of the loudspeaker. Despite the design perfection of our transducers and cabinets, we realize that the phase corrections are the “missing point” for the perfection. This technique allows a deep control of phase at mid-low frequencies with relatively small filters, reaching a higher resolution than that one as theory suggests.

Sound

Mr Justin Hornsby4th May 2019

They look great but more importantly they sound great too. So far they've coped with literally everything I can throw at them. It's important to run active speakers below their limiting point, so while testing them on delivery day I cranked my mixer as loud as I dared, peaking at +10dB. Even with the input level control on the HD12A mk4 all the way up, not even a hint of the limit LED coming on. Does the limit LED even work, I wondered? Then I enabled the EQ switch to engage the 'smiley face' EQ mode (aka loudness button, or contour switch). Then & only then did the limit LED flash in sympathy with the beat of the music. Not that having the switch engaged made that much difference to the sound at that kind of volume, so it stays off in normal operation. My previous PA speakers (Alto TS115A) had put in over 4 years service. They did an OK job but some tracks I played were too challenging for them. Too much mid or too much bass meant reaching for the EQ to tame them. The same tracks played through the RCF HD12A can be left flat & my ears never tire of the sound. That's quite a difference. Specs-wise the HD12A mk4 are on a frequency response par with the Art 715 mk4. The 715mk4 is alleged to be 1dB louder.. but boy are they ugly compared to the HD12A IMHO. I love the slightly curved front grille & the overall much more domesticated appearance of the HD12A. There's no input mixer on the amp panel of the HD12A but I knew this before I bought them & it's no great loss. They'll always be driven directly from a desk or a DJ controller. From their first gig out they've been amazing me with the clarity & sheer detail they can deliver even at high volumes. As a mobile DJ I've heard a lot of tracks countless times & even now I'm hearing parts of songs I've never noticed before. I guess that's what kind of difference spending 3x the amount a cheaper speaker costs can bring, but other HD12 users I know say they're the best speakers they've ever heard. They're certainly the best I've ever owned or played out on. If you're looking for a pair of PA speakers that don't look ugly, can hold their own with a crowd of up to 150 people & you have a budget of about a grand you should definitely consider these.
