Product Description

The EastCoast L1 is a great starter instrument for the budding musician. This legendary-shaped guitar is known as one of the most versatile instruments ever created. Perfect for the guitarist who is up for playing anything and everything.

Sound

The L1 has two humbucker pickups - the parts of the guitar that "picks up" the sound of the strings and directs it into the amp. These produce a smooth, warm tone suited to playing both rhythm and lead playing styles.

The four dials on the right-hand side of the body let you change the tone and volume. These let you experiment with the sound and so never get bored of picking up the instrument.

You can get right up the neck for screaming high notes thanks to 22 frets. These are the thin metal bars across the fingerboard. The more you have, the more notes you can play. That's why the L1 is brilliant for either soulful solos or chugging low notes.

Looks

Almost every famous guitarist has owned a single-cutaway guitar like the L1. The classic shape is compact enough to play standing or seated, while the cut in the body of the guitar allows your left hand to reach the highest frets comfortably.

This model has a beautiful flame maple top, which gives it distinctive wave patterns across the face of the guitar. It's renowned as a classy, modern look amongst guitar aficionados.

Way more than a starter instrument. Marketed as such, but I’m a busy gigging guitarist who wanted an instrument that looked the part, but didn’t cost ££££. This definitely looks and feels fantastic, plays absolutely lovely, build and quality control for this price is unbelievable. A good weight, no back contour cut which i like. I was ready to upgrade tuners etc on such an affordable instrument but there is no need at all, they are great. Ready to take to sweaty pub gigs now!

It's actually pretty ridiculous how good these guitars are for the money. The frets needed rehidrating but you can say that of any guitar that's been sat in a warehouse for a while. Speaking of which, the fret work was very good and I had very minimal buzz even after lowering the action and putting a larger string guage on. I've had far worse experiences in this regard with much more expensive instruments, some of which I've never been able to get quite right even after setups. I will say the frets are a little scratchy but that's nothing a polish and playing won't cure. The guitar holds it's tuning well and the weight is just right. None of us are getting any younger and it's a blessing not to be hulking around a tree trunk of a Les Paul but still getting the look and feel of it right. That's not to say it feels like a toy either, the weight is just right 👍. Sound wise the pickups are actually really nice and the guitar resonates really well leading to a lot of nice sustain on big open chords or lead notes. Finish wise, there's very little to sniff at. It looks and feels very much like a mid tier Epiphone and tbh, unless you're going high up the stack, I'd take one of these any day of the week for the price. The neck is perfect too, it's not too slim and dainty but not so thick you need to have massive hands to get the most from it. All in all, I'd happily gig or record with this, it doesn't look or feel like a cheap guitar and the headstock design is subtle enough that people won't clock it as being an "affordable" guitar at first blush if that's something you're concerned about. Obviously when it comes to guitars, there's always the chance you might get a dud but for me this is highly recommended and a very pleasant surprise.
