Product Description

The EastCoast L1 is the perfect starter instrument for the complete rock musician. This legendary-shaped guitar is known as one of the most versatile instruments ever created. Perfect for a guitarist who is up for playing anything and everything.

Sound

The L1 has two humbucker pickups - the parts of the guitar that take the sound of the strings and directs it into an amp. These produce a gritty, warm tone suited to playing both rhythm and lead guitar.

The four dials on the right-hand side of the body let you change the tone and volume. You can experiment away with the sound and never get bored of picking it up to play.

You can get right up the neck for screaming high notes thanks to 22 frets. These are the thin metal bars across the fingerboard. The more you have, the more notes you can play. That's why the L1 is brilliant for either soulful solos or chugging low notes.

Looks

Almost every famous guitarist has owned a single-cutaway guitar like the L1. The classic shape is compact enough to play standing or seated, while the cut in the body of the guitar allows your left hand to reach the highest frets comfortably.

First of all, the guitar is excellent, especially for the money. The tuning stability is better than the original models that inspired this design. Like a lot of cheaper guitars pretty much everything is heavily lacquered so it shines brilliantly and is protected yet the neck doesn't grip your hand like some high gloss finishes. I didn't need to adjust the action or intonation out-the-box, it just worked right away. The frets were also dressed well where your hand will likely contact. It sounds great, the pickups are nice, switches feel robust etc. My only issue is that I can tell the preparation of the body before painting was poor and the painting environment wasn't dust free. In the right light I can see scratches that are presumably in the primer where it's been rubbed down with too coarse a material and the metallic gold sprayed over the top unfortunately really doesn't hide things like that well. Similarly there is some "chatter" on the binding of the fingerboard where it looks like someone has run a deburring tool down the edge and it has dug in and skipped along the edge. There is also dust in the lacquer. I am maybe cursed as I used to work in car body repair so I have a keen eye for these things. Others may not even notice. Putting all of this into perspective, I am happy with the overall package. At this price point it really punches above it's weight as a musical instrument. The tell tale signs that is been produced somewhere with less attention to detail and less willingness to rectify minor issues are inevitable as they have to keep the labour costs low. All-in-all I am still very happy with my purchase and would buy another even with the same finish standard. In my opinion a fantastic guitar but if you have a keen eye like me you may prefer a "busier" finish like some sort of burst as you will be less likely to notice the minor blemishes here and there.

This Les Paul Gold Top style guitar is simply brilliant. Quality far exceeds what you would expect at this price point. I am so impressed with this brand I also own East Coast Tele and Strat type guitars and all of them look great, play well and sound superb. Why buy anything else?

Mr Peter Negenborn17th Apr 2022

Very impressed with looks, quality and playability of the guitar. The guitar surpassed my expectations of such a competitively priced guitar and is far better than more costly guitars. East Coast have certainly come up with a winning formula for this Les Paul and the Gold top makes it look classy. The tonal quality is also very good and classic Les Paul sounds are available on this instrument.

How do East Coast do it at this price point?? Unbelievable quality and workmanship on a par with many more expensive brands. Were I to be picky, the bridge pickup is slightly misaligned on mine, but that would be nit picking to the nth degree, I would say that the pickups are slightly brighter sounding than expected from this style of guitar, but they are wonderfully clear and articulate. The weight of mine was a comfortable 8.2lbs, slightly lighter than expected, but the whole package arrived beautifully set up and just feels perfect straight out of the box
