    Paying Homage

First introduced in the '80s - and only available for 3 years in total - the original Mono/Poly synth established itself as a go-to piece of gear for many electronic artists of the era. This has made it a sought after instrument for many collectors.

However, thanks to this affordable cloning of the original model, synth-heads everywhere can experiment with the same great sounds and features that made the first Mono/Poly tick. From the pure analog signal path modelled on the originals circuitry, to '80s VCA, VCF and VCO designs, and versatile key modes (for polyphonic, duophonic and monophonic styles), experiment with the very same engineering and sonic tools.

    Sound Shaping

These all contribute to intuitive and fun shaping of your sounds that are heavily influenced by old-school electronica. Play everything from dynamic, intriguing lead tones, to punchy, sludgy bass and bright ambiences.

With four VCOs - each with four switchable waveshapes - there's plenty of tonal building blocks available. You can adjust each VCO's level, tuning and octave with dedicated knobs too; they can be blended with differing waveshapes as well for even more developed sounds.

A VCA and VCF have also been incorporated into the MonoPoly. Both contain an ADSR - ensuring you can tweak the shape of your envelope. This results in contrasting notes, whether that's longer, drawn out drones, or sharp percussive bursts. Further augmentation of these sounds comes in the form of the noise knob, which as its name suggests, adds white noise.

    Keys & Controls

You'll be playing these sounds using the 37 semi-weighted keys. Modulation depth is altered via the MG1 wheel, while the pitch can be decreased or increased from the bend wheel. Add to this 62 buttons and knobs in total (positioned on the tilting top panel), outputs and inputs for oscillator pitch, filter cutoff and more, and there's a tonne of creative avenues available to you here.

Excellent synth. I especially like how the arpeggiator works with the VCO's.

It sounds amazing. Build quality is excellent. I've been looking to buy the original for years, but the silly price tag and the possibility of it going wrong has put me off. So the behringer Monopoly is great value for money and should be reliable. The only slight downside is that I would have liked it a little larger in size. Say another octave on the keyboard and the knobs spaced out a little more.

Behringer MonoPoly: firstly, before you even plug it in, it is a beautiful instrument. It is physically heavy, beautiful to look at and very well made. It is well packaged too. The power supply cable is a bit flimsy, but other than that, it is a really beautiful instrument for something at this price point. In terms of sound, it is capable of sounding really thick and full, and has a lot more depth than is apparent from the basically simple control panel. Playing polyphonically with just 1 oscillator per note is already thick sounding. It really sounds good, I thoroughly recommend it if this is what you are looking for, though to state the obvious it is a very different synthesizer to a digital, preset-laden polyphonic synth with internal effects etc. I have wanted a MonoPoly since I first saw one as a kid in the shops in the 1980's, but had never played one. I am very glad to have finally been able to buy one. I couldn't give a hoot that it is not the Korg original, I much prefer to have a modern version. If Korg released a modern version then that is a different argument, but I for one am very grateful to Behringer for bringing this synth back.

It seems very well made but its ultimate durability - who knows, that's a question for the future. Other than that, this is an incredible remake job by Behringer. I did own an original Monopoly long ago and, although I am relying on my memory, this sounds just like it to me. I am actually glad they didn't stick any of their effects or a sequencer on this one, since those are all better applied externally.

I am rapidly become a big fan of Behringer’s products. I have 7 of their clone synths & a drum machine clone now (all of which I purchased from Anderson’s) & they are all awesome. The Monoploy sounds fat as all hell. It’s not something I am as familiar with, but, from what I can tell, it’s pretty convincing like the original vintage Korg.... at a fraction of the price. If your considering buying this synth, stop considering & start buying.
