Product Description

With guitars and basses being tuned lower than ever before and more strings being added on sometimes a regular neck just can't keep the tension up. That is why Ibanez have introduced a multi scale fanned fret neck on this 5 string bass the SRFF805 so you don't have to feel out of control any more.

Fanned Frets, What Do They Do?

Fanned frets are an interesting piece of tech as it essentially means that the low strings on your bass have a longer scale length (bridge to nut) than the higher strings. This means that the frets must be angled in such a way that looks like a fan. On this bass it goes from 35.5" on the 5th string to 34" on the first. It may not sound like a lot but it when you feel the difference you won't want to go back.

Because of this change your string tension when using standard gauge strings will be very similar from the low B to high G strings. No longer do you have to vary how hard you hit the strings depending on tension as they will all be the same. Don't worry it doesn't make it harder to play. After 30 minutes with a bass like this you will start getting the hand of finger placement and you will be ready to rock the stage.

Beautifully Finished Woods

Speaking about the neck this has a very strong fanned 5 piece Jatoba/Bubinga neck with a rosewood fretboard, so even with the higher tension from the fanned frets you don't need to worry about neck damage. The body is made of Ash and has been carved into the always lovely SR shape. The SR basses have always been popular thanks to their small bodies and thin necks and well this is no different.

I did mention it has all been beautifully finished and just look at it. The natural finish lets the full definition of the wood grain come through on the body and headstock. The look is sleek and simple and I don't think you will look out of place anywhere with this. Jazz club or metal festival this sleek bass will always be cool.

Versatile Electronics

One of the defining parts of the SR series of basses have been their balanced soapbar pickups and in depth active electronics. The SRFF805 does not disappoint here either. With Bartolini BH1 pickups and Ibanez's own custom electronics with 3 band EQ that can be turned off at a moments notice. So if your battery dies or your next gig needs more of a passive sound no problem just flick the switch and you go into passive mode where your treble control turns into your tone.
