Product Description

The Combustion is Dingwall's flagship bass model, bringing unrivalled performance and potent tone at an extremely reasonable price-point. This has been achieved via a process that combines Chinese manufacturing techniques with components and materials sourced from within North America. This incredibly versatile 5-string bass comes in a striking finish with a gorgeous Quilted Maple Top.

About Dingwall Basses

Based in Canada, Dingwall are renowned for designing and crafting instruments of the utmost quality. Taking conventional construction to new heights with their signature multi-scale formula, Dingwall's popular Combustion bass offers immense playability and projects some of the most precise low-end tones we've ever heard!

First-Class Construction

Boasting an elegant and sleek body shape, embellished with a matte black pickguard, the Dingwall Combustion simply screams "modern". But looks aside, it's the instrument's materials that are key to its focused and detailed sound. With a body formed from Swamp Ash, this lightweight tonewood prevents fatigue during long playing sessions and possesses a strong voice that pumps out balanced lows and crisp highs - allowing notes to sound broad yet lively.

Paired with a bolt-on Maple neck, this bright-sounding material further accentuates the instrument's top-end presence, with its 5-piece construction offering amazing strength and stability. Letting notes cut through effortlessly in even the most frantic of mixes, the Maple neck's bolt-on joint also enhances definition and playing attack.

Multi-Scale Design

The most noteworthy feature of the Combustion bass is its multi-scale design. With a 37" scale on the low B string and a 34" scale on the G, the higher string tension on the lower strings gives the bass more clarity where it matters most.

Utilising fanned frets, these allow for super-accurate intonation across the entire fingerboard, with their slanted placement suiting the natural resting position of your hand. It may look odd at first, but you'd be surprised at how easy it is to adapt to this type of design! On the subject of frets, playability is also enhanced by the use of smaller, 18% hard nickel silver fretwire. It provides a much faster feel, as well as a woodier, less metallic tone.

Flexible Electronics

The Combustion comes installed with a trio of punchy Dingwall-designed FD-3N pickups. These deliver the thunderous and aggressive sounds synonymous with today's rock and metal musicians, featuring Neodymium magnets for improved definition. The pickups are placed close to the bridge to further boost the instrument's upper mid-range response, for increased clarity when fighting against the sounds of multiple guitars.

Featuring a master volume control, the Dingwall Combustion also boasts a rotary pickup selector that provides access to different pickup combinations. With an active/passive switch that allows you to flick between vintage and modern voicings on-the-fly, it is the EMG 3-band preamp that really sets this bass apart. Giving you control over the three main areas of the Combustions's EQ, you can tailor the sound of the bass to suit practically any style of music!

High-Quality Hardware

Dingwall's Combustion bass is also kitted out with tour-grade hardware appointments, including lightweight open-gear tuners that prevent neck dive and offer a smooth feel for precise pitching. The Combustion's highly-adjustable staggered bridge design also enables each string to vibrate more freely - for greater sustain and note resonance.
