Product Description

Perfect for the pragmatic bass player. The TC Electronic BQ500 is the lightest bass head you will ever carry. And it'll still deliver massive punchy tones.

Weighing in at 2.3kg, the BQ500 micro head has been designed with portability clearly at the forefront. Take it from practice, to studio and to the stage in your backpack with no hassle at all. It's roadworthy too thanks to an impressive 500W inside its rugged steel casing.

Four-band EQ

Just because it's small doesn't mean it hasn't got the quality to match bigger beasts. the BQ500 packs Class-D amplifier technology controlled over a four-band EQ; bass, lo-mid, hi-mid and treble. An added thrust knob brings in the Mosfet preamp compressor circuit that sets the dynamic range. This can take your tone to the next level by emulating real tube power.

The passive/active switch optimises the preamp input for either active or passive pickups. You'll get the best tonal response whatever bass you're playing.

Practicality

Beyond it's size, TC Electronic have added some handy features to make this one of the most simple amps to plug in and play. A DI output lets you hook the BQ500 up to the front of house for the most stress free gig setups ever. There's also an aux slot in the back and speaker emulation to plug headphones in for quiet practising.

I needed a bass amp able to keep up with a loud drummer and two really loud guitar amps (practices are too loud not to wear ear protectors). I’m not sure how loud this goes - at practice I was louder than everyone with the gain on 3 and master vol only on 3 through a 4ohm 115 cab. Goodness only know what happens when you get past 5! The sound was clear (I use a tube preamp pedal to get some shape and grind) and it cut through the mix really well. I couldn’t notice any benefit from the Thrust knob at practice volume but I have a compressor pedal so that’s not an issue. All in all, it’s light, powerful little monster.

Good powerful, clean sound. Responsive EQ. Haven't had a chance to really test it out in anger though.

Great tone with little effort. Though not road tested yet, it seems durable and packs a lot of power in a tiny package. (500 watts, fits in a gigbag under £200).

Great amp head very portable. More than powerful enough and extremely versatile. Great all round bass head.

Apart from the Passive / Active switch seeming to be the wrong way round, once I worked it out the amplifier provides great output and range. The sound remains clean even at higher volumes, but can be distorted using the gain and thrust controls if required. I will be trying this in medium size venues when permitted and see no reason why it won't be up to the job.
