The Precision Bass is the definitive electric bass guitar with a sound that has helped define music since the 50s. It’s hard to beat the sound of a vintage P-Bass but getting your hands on one is both difficult and highly expensive. This custom shop model recreates the 1955 P-Bass giving you a vintage look, tone, and feel, at far less than the cost of an original.
‘55-Style Precision Bass
This model is based on the 1955 Precision Bass, one of the earliest versions Fender made. Because it’s based on an early model, there are some differences when compared to the P-Bass we know today. Most noticeable is the Telecaster-style pickguard which immediately gives the bass a more eye-catching, vintage look. There’s also the pickup which is a straight single-coil rather than the more familiar split-coil. While the pickup may be different you still get that old school warm, woody, and articulate tone that you’d expect from a P-Bass. Other vintage-style appointments include the metal bridge and pickup covers and the finger rest on the treble side of the bass.
True to the original ‘55 Precision Bass, this bass features a lightweight ash body with a maple neck and fingerboard. The neck has a 55 P-Bass Soft “V” profile which is a fairly thick shape that’s comfortable for wrapping your hand around. The fingerboard has an era-correct 7.25” radius which has a more curved fretting surface for a more vintage playing feel.
This bass has been given the Fender Custom Shop relic treatment to age the bass and give it the look of an original ‘55 P-Bass as well as an instantly played-in feel from the moment you pick it up. The body is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer which will further age and wear naturally as you play making it uniquely yours.
