Mandolins
The mandolin is a popular folk instrument, usually found with four pairs of strings tuned in unison, a perfect 5th apart. Part of the Lute family, Mandolins are typically played with a plectrum.

Derived from instruments that go far beyond BC, the mandolin as we know it was developed in the 18th century. There are a number of varieties, the most common of which are the 8, 10 and 12-string versions. The strings are doubled-up and tuned in unison, typically a perfect 5th apart, which means they’re played as 4, 5 and 6-strings respectively. The two most common designs are the F-Style, which features an ornamental scroll on the body, and the A-Style which has a more uniform pear-shape design.
Commonly found in a number of musical genres including classical, folk and bluegrass music, the mandolin remains an extremely popular instrument! Companies like Epiphone and Gretsch produce a number of varieties to suit every playing style and budget.
