    Product Description

Faith are known for creating absolutely stunning acoustic guitars at every price point. Now they are entering the travel guitar market with their Nomad series that are stripped back, simple but still sound sound great. Based on their Neptune body shape this mini jumbo is an amazing travel companion.

    Mini Neptune Body

The Neptune body shape is a small jumbo style based on Patrick James Eggle's highly acclaimed 'Saluda' shape. This shape has then been shrunk further to make it perfect for those who want to move around a lot with their guitar. The benefit of basing it off of the Neptune is that you still get certain elements of the jumbo sound even when shrunk down. Warm, smooth tones that can fit in to any band all in a package that you can carry on a plane.

    All Mahogany

Mahogany is one of the worlds most popular tonewoods. This is because of the warm tone it produces and just how well it projects forward even with a small body. Most of this guitar is actually made from Mahogany including the neck and solid pieces that make up the top, back and sides of the body. This helps bring out those Jumbo guitar style features in smaller guitars like this for epic tone every time you pick it up.

    Plug In and Go

While the Nomad is by no means quiet you will probably still want to make sure you can plug in before playing in front of the crowd. Luckily the Nomad comes equipped out of the box with a Fishman Sonicore Pickup and Isys T preamp. With volume, tone shaping, and phase controls, as well as an on board tuner this has everything you need ready for you to plug in to an amp and get playing.

In lockdown I’ve been trying to relearn all those tricky rags and classical pieces I knew before I damaged my shoulder in the 1980’s. I have found that playing even my Martin 00028EC is causing shoulder problems so I bought a Baby Taylor – I can play that for much longer without pins and needles in the right hand. Then I thought I’d try something a little bigger and bought the Faith. I’ve previously had a Faith Naked Venus, and I have an electric (Vienna) custom made for me by Patrick Eggle in the mid 1990’s. So I knew this would be a well made guitar. The Nomad Mini arrived after 4 days (much longer than usual for Andertons but it was a Covid bank Holiday). Out of the box it was already very playable. Quite a big sound for a small guitar, and loads of warm sustain (which you only get with solid woods and good construction). The preamp is tonally balanced, loud and has a good tuner. The machine heads are good quality. I always do my own setups. There are 5 main issues in getting a good action: nut, saddle, truss rod, fret levelling and the one that can usually only be done by a luthier: neck angle. I had to do all 5 on the Baby Taylor (the neck is detachable) to get it to play well. The Faith was already very good, but all I needed to do for perfection on the Faith was slightly deepen 3 nut slots, and I also took about 1mm off the bridge saddle. My only slight question mark is the choice of medium sized frets on a shortish scale guitar. The Nomad had nice smooth frets but a little flat on top - which can reduce clarity if the action is low. I think narrow frets would work on a guitar such as this (the Baby Taylor has narrow frets), but if medium frets are used then a little more profiling would be advisable. 14 frets, rather than 12, would be nice too, but then you would either gain length or lose tone. All in all: a great guitar if you want something compact, but still sounding good, both acoustically and plugged in. My ratings below are based on comparison with full sized guitars - for a mini this would get "excellent"

Not for regular use at home. Does what it should and sounds good for it’s size.

Really is a beautiful sound, despite the player.

Great sound, both acoustic and jacked in to an amp. Guitar beautifully made. Gig bag not to the same standard, functional, but not as good as say a Baby Taylor bag. To be honest I'd rather spend the money on the quality of the guitar, and buy an after market bag / case if required.
