The Taylor 254ce brings the bell-like 12-string chime to the 200 series. With layered rosewood back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce top, and Taylor's impressive ES2 electronics, the 214ce balances playability, build-quality, and affordability.
Taylor's 200 series guitars are designed for the working musician. Those who need a guitar that can keep up with physical and tonal demands of recording, live performance, and more, without breaking their bank account will find what they need here. 200 series guitars all feature solid wood tops, laminate back and sides, and Taylor's premier ES2 electronics. Affordable Taylors that offer more than just the bare essentials and will handle whatever you throw at them.
Every guitarist should have a 12-string in their arsenal. 12-string guitars have 6 pairs of strings, with the lower 3 usually tuned in pairs of octaves and the upper 3 pairs are tuned to the same note as each other. The result is a natural chorus effect that sounds like two guitars playing at once. With a 12-string you get a rich, full sound, with an incredible bell-like ring that'll instantly reinvigorate your playing.
The Grand Auditorium body shape is a true all-rounder. With its articulate, responsive sound and broad dynamic range, the Grand Auditorium is great for both fingerstyle and strumming alike and can handle any genre you throw at it. The more rounded edges of the Grand Auditorium also make it a more physically comfortable guitar than larger or boxy shapes like jumbos and dreadnoughts.
Layered Rosewood Body With Solid Spruce Top
The back and sides of this model are made from layered rosewood - two layers of rosewood veneer around a core poplar layer - which gives that classic rosewood look at a more affordable price. The top, however, is made from solid Sitka spruce, the industry standard for acoustic guitar tops. Spruce provides a balanced tone with a broad dynamic range making it a versatile tonewood suited to a wide range of styles.
Expression System 2 Electronics
The 214ce features Taylor’s Expression System 2 (ES2) pickup system. Unlike a traditional undersaddle piezo pickup, the ES2 is located behind the bridge with three individually calibrated pickup sensors. The result is a greater dynamic range and less "squashed" sound from your pickup tone. The preamp is simple but effective with just volume, treble and bass controls for shaping your sound. There's also an interior phase switch to help reduce low-frequency feedback. Whether you're performing live into an amp or PA or you're recording into an audio interface the 214ce is ready to plug-in-and-play right out of the box!
