Sennheiser Freeport FP72 Wireless Guitar System

The Sennheiser Freeport Wireless System offers a high quality UHF, multi channel wireless system at an incredible price. If you're not familiar with wireless jargon, here are the basics!
UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency - this refers to the type of radio wave that the wireless system transmits on. Older (& sometimes the new but very cheap) wireless systems are still using VHF (Very High Frequency) to transmit on, & these are the types of system that often interfere with local taxi firms & other shortwave radio users. UHF does not have this problem & provided that you're using a UK licenced frequency (which you will be with a Freeport system) the only interference that is possible is from another UHF wireless system that uses the same frequency (ie - another member of your band!).

Multi Channel means that the wireless system can be switched to work on different frequencies. The Sennhieser Freeport system has 4 frequencies (or channels) to chose from - all of which are UK approved to be used without a licence. This means you can run 4 Freeport systems simultaneously in the same band - you just each select a unique frequency. If you need more than 4 wireless systmes then you'll need to buy a more expensive system with more frequencies to chose from (like the Sennheiser Evolution Systems).
In summary, the Freeport system operates on UHF which means virtually no chance of interference, & it has 4 channels to choose from, which means up to 4 people can use Freeport systems in the same band.

The headset system is the same as the presenter system, but comes with a light weight, high quality headset mic as well as the lapel mic. This is ideal for singers/dancers who want to move around a lot, or for teachers or people doing business presentations. Because the headset mic is much closer to the mouth then the lapel mic, the headset system is much more suitable for singing.

For the price, you probably can't get much better! This is my first wireless kit and it's perfect. No issues with sound, I haven't had any need for the other frequencies yet and I've used it for several gigs already and the freedom around the stage is awesome. The range is really good, it says line of sight but I managed to go down 2 flights of stairs and it was still working fine.

It would've been nice for Sennheiser to provide a better form of casing to carry it around in. Luckily for me it fits quite nicely in my hard case for my guitar but you probably wouldn't want to be carrying the box it comes in around various venues or piling it into the back of a car / van.

An issue I have, although it might just be with my guitar, is that when I move the volume knob even just a little bit it will cause all sorts of screeching and crackling. If I leave it alone it's fine. In this case a mute switch somewhere either on the transmitter or receiver might have been useful.

As this is my first wireless I wouldn't be able to say for sure how good this is for the price but it's certainly better than tripping over your cable.

bought this today, had a play around the house before packing to go play half way across the country with British India :P

sounds bloody good, however you do tend to loose a slight bit of presence when using the wireless but the tone is still exactly the same! haven't used it live yet but am looking forward to it!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Provides great wireless sound for a very reasonable price.

Pretty simple really. Just had to make sure that band members don't have frequency clash with other equipment. Got this at the same time as an LD in-ear wireless system. Bought them, tried them out, gigged without problems the next day. Only downside, probably common with all this wireless stuff, is the fairly short lifetime of the batteries on the body-packs. Need good alkaline batteries and even then best to have new ones for each gig.
