The main reason for my getting this is for the controller keyboard. You are able to download a demo of the software itself from the Arturia website and so can judge whether the sounds and interface are to your liking, but for most potential buyers they will not be able to try out the keyboard.
I sold on my excellent Novation Impulse 25 for this due to the smaller footprint, lower profile and 7 extra keys. No regrets.
Sonically, the highlights for me are the sequenced patches on the Moog Modular and MiniV and ARP 2600, stunning sounds and very retro. The interface is very easy to use and the favourites function highly useful.
The software is a plug-in but also, usefully, a standalone program.
The only patches which disappoint are the Jupiter 8V; they are all too quiet and a little lacklustre.
Turning to the keyboard, I am very pleased with it. It is surprisingly (and reassuringly) heavy, the pots and faders well made and offer good resistance and the two wheels have a very good feel. I don't know if the wooden end cheeks are real wood.
The unit sits well with my Virus TI Snow has it has the same colour scheme.
The keys have aftertouch (good, but you have to press down fairly hard) and are semi-weighted with metal strips on the underside; not quite up to Novation quality, but considering you get the software aswell, and this has 32 keys rather then the usual 25 on most mini-controllers, it is ideal for desktop use. It is a low profile keyboard and does not take up too much desk space. It is also USB bus powered.
I was able to get this with free Minimoog V and Modular soft synths included due to a special offer, and so for me the overall package was amazing value. However, given the 3500 sound on Analog Experience and the superior favourites function, I find I use this more than the softsynths themselves.
