Focusrite Saffire 6 USB 2 in 4 out Interface

The new Saffire 6 is the most affordable interface in the Focusrite range. It features 4 analogue outputs (great for DJs who need to get two stereo sources from their PC) and two analog inputs on Focusrite's world famous pres. Despite being priced to be affordable to all, Focusrite did not want to compromise on sound quality. They included high quality D/A and low latency drivers too! The interface connects to your computer via USB and is highly compact making it a great tool on the move for recording stereo sources, or getting your ideas down onto a laptop.

The Saffire 6 even has MIDI in and out so it can be used as the centerpiece of a home studio, and thanks to its ruggedness it can be constantly unhooked and taken on the road!

Here's what Focusrite say about the Saffire 6

The Focusrite Saffire 6 USB is a 2 In / 4 Out USB audio interface. It uses the same award-winning Focusrite mic-pres as the rest of the Saffire range. This makes it the best value, and best sounding interface in its class. Its output configuration is also ideal for laptop DJs.

It is ultra-reliable and easy to set up, providing you with the simplest route to record into, and play back from your computer. It has lower latency than any of its rivals, and professional analogue to digital converters ensure you get the best possible signal into your recording software.

With 2 mic-pres, multiple outputs and MIDI I/O, the Saffire 6 USB can be at the centre of your home recording set-up. However, its reliability means that you can take it out and record on location with confidence. The 2 in 4 out configuration is perfect for laptop DJs who need to be able to cue up material, or send two different signals to either side of a DJ mixer.

This is our most affordable interface to date, and it comes with Ableton Live Lite 7, Novation's Bass Station synthesizer and over a gigabyte of samples. In addition to all this, you get the Focusrite FX Suite, which includes a compressor, gate, reverb and EQ to upgrade your standard AU/VST effects.

The Saffire 6 USB is certainly the easiest way of getting the classic Focusrite mic-pre into your recording set-up.

Software

The Saffire 6 comes bundled with a ton of great software including Abelton Live Lite 7, Focusrite Plugin suite with Compression (modelled on Focusrite hardware), Reverb, Gating and EQ VST/AU plug-ins, for use in the mix.

The interface also comes with 'Xcite+' on a DVD-ROM filled to the brim with royalty-free loops and samples alongside some powerful applications ideal for getting the new user started, or to expand the experienced user's creative toolbox.

The Focusrite Saffire 6 USB is more than adequate for my set up.

It's simple to plug in (USB)

The driver installation was without problems (install the CD before you plug the Saffire in for the first time)

It has two inputs which are perfect for my mic and instrument

It also has midi inputs on the back although I already had a USB midi input.

Simple, plain and clear to use. Absolutely no problems at all.

I'd done my research into this product before purchasing it and that work has paid off. Great sound and versatility from the unit, considering its reasonable price. Trouble-free set-up too - I am happy.

Excellent piece of kit. I'm new to home recording, but have found this nice & straightforward to use. Bought over the Christmas break from a very busy Andertons, but still got a top service from the staff. Highly recommended.

Great piece of kit. Very straight forward install and buss powered which not only saves on cabling but avoids the mains loop hum i've encountered on similar mains powered units. Not sure on battery endurance from my laptop but field recording can be done. Good drivers allow low latency in ASIO and WDM mode. The preamps are lovely too as you would expect from Focusrite, very quiet and natural sounding. All the right in and out options plus midi will take care of all eventualities i need and it's a good solid build quality, metal throughout incl. knobs. No hesitation in recommending this audio interface.

I bought this unit as I had just also upgraded to Cubase 5 and Windows 7 and my existing soundcard was not compatible.

There followed several days of updating this and that: buying a new one (and selling the old one): uninstalling and reinstalling etc.etc. generally trying to get the sytem up and running. I had much great help from Ben Ware but could not get it to work. Finally, I phoned Focusrite on Ben's advice and they told me that they did not yet have the drivers developed for Cubase 5!! It would have been useflu if their website had said this when I was downloading their latest ones.

In the meantime they have put me onto an asio4all driver which seems to be working ok.

I can't credit Ben at Andertons enough for his help but Focusrite should make sure that this type of info is "out there" for all to see. This would save an awful lot of time and aggravation.

I recently purchased a pair of KRK RP8 monitors and didn't want to shell out a huge amount of money for an external sound card. Having researched some inexpensive sound cards, I stumbled upon this little gem.

I've had this for almost a month now and am using it in conjunction with my Mac. I can honestly say that for an entry level sound card it's worth every penny. I'm using the balanced outputs and there is no noticeable signal noise emanating from the device.

I mainly use virtual instruments so didn't need anything with a large amount of I/O's. I've plugged a guitar into the pre-amp and found almost no signal noise on the recording. The only gripe I have is that very rarely (once in a blue moon), for some unknown reason the sound card will no longer output any sound. This is solved by unplugging the usb cable and plugging it back in and I'm sure this will be fixed by Focusrite with a driver update.

If you're looking for a budget home studio sound card with some decent pre-amps, a few I/O's and a nice little software bundle, then I would highly recommend this device for any budding bedroom musician or DJ.
